Matt- Our old tractor is an L245DT, bought well used. I use Rotella 15-40, pretty standard for diesel engines, especially older ones, and available most everywhere. For trans./hydraulic fluid, I got that in 5 gallon pails of generic tractor fluid at Sam's Club.

Thanks Jim!

I talked with the guys at Messick's (in southeastern PA) and they recommended 10W-30 for the L245DT, so that's what I'm going to go with for the time being and see how it does. I picked up a 5 gallon bucket of New Holland 10W-30 from them.

Decided to just use the Kubota standard UDT fluid for the trans/hydraulic (also on the recommendation of Messick's). Super UDT is, as far as I could tell, not worth the money for an older tractor.

Kubota recommends 10w30 above 77 degrees and 10w30 below 32 degrees. These are summer temps. Even last July it got down to 46 degrees. What if it is -16 like this week? Seems odd to me. I had 15w40 when it was -10 in December and it hardly turned over enough to start. I went to Mobil1 5w40 synthetic and it started a lot easier in the same temps. Kubota is too general for oil. If I could get 0w 30 i'd use it. Anyone know of 0w syn? Later Steve.

Thats your summer temps? We get that in Feb! I think I better use something with a 40 on the end of it down here.

Summer temps get to 95 , sometimes a little hotter but rarely. That is why I am going to try synthetic oil. It is good in cold and hot.Later, ihookem.
