While I am sympathetic to Bob and his troubles, he needs to address the issue with Corriher directly and not debate it in this forum. If the problem is not resolved, then complain.

Bob wasn't complaining, just asking if anyone else had a similar problem. CCI seems to me to be the fuse lighter on this one.

Sorry all, I don't me to be a pest, but I hate to see someone get beat for no reason....now if you have a good reason.....

On my tooth failure, the cause was a side load on the tooth while hitting the rock. I was turning without the rippers fully up and caught a rock. That's operator error !. I have impacted several tractor stoppers since and if I'm dead-on, there is no problem, it's the side load that's the problem.

I couldn't help but to think about this thread when I went back out after taking a TBN break this afternoon...

"Am I usin' it or abusin' it? " was the question that popped into my head...

Hey! I admit it. Looks like I may be abusing it! But the extra weight makes it work a lot better... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Guess it's a good thing I don't own Bob's tractor... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Every dealer needs a person like you. Thanks.. I do not ride the fence and I am not afraid to take a position.. yes I was a fuse lighter..."G" on the weekends someone has to sell some newspapers, what I mean is it was dead and I wanted get the posts rolling. It's just the correct thing to do when a customer calls and I know there is a better solution than they realize. When we are good on an item we'll sell it to you, but we are not going to be the best deal all the time, but check with us and we'll try.

I really wanted to reply, but tend to be a little caustic myself when expressing my opinions. Fortunately, Yellowdog pretty well said what I was thinking. Good job.

When plowing with the big tractor, it is amazing what big rocks will pull up without a whimper from the plow/tractor! Couple 100 lb'er will roll right out!

Then again, I've had a little football sized rock cause the front end to lift up on the tractor, break off a part of the plow lay, _&_ trip the reset after all that. And can't hardly find the rock it's so small!

If you are pulling an implement in the ground, you MUST have a way of protecting the implement & the tractor. Either can be damaged by unseen 'stuff' in the ground. I would imagine a trip mechanism is more than any of you wish to pay for. So, something MUST break when there is no give. I never gave it any thought, but I suppose a $15 tooth breaking is about as good a design as any.

Now, we don't know if there was a flaw in the tooth - then it should be replaced.

Considering how new it was, I suspect it will be replaced, even if it wasn't a manufaturing flaw.

I certainly would not call it an operator _error_. It just happened. Poor choise of words there, in my opinion. It is the operator's _responsibility_, but not his _error_. Dragging iron through the ground is an unknown, and the operator of the equipment has to shoulder the responibility of those unknowns - not the manufaturer. That's just how it is.

As to Henro, so much of the time I totally agree with you. But really did not understand your message at all this time - you sure can hurt a machine (or yourself) by mis-matching an implement to a tractor, or operating outside the rules of common sense! I totally disagree with the bulk of your message here. I think your thoughts are actually dangerous here.

But this is all just my opinion - don't mean to get in any kind of quarrel. Just discussing things....

That is just what you wanted the scarifier tooth to do. If the tooth had not broken then the tooth holder would have been damaged. Remember it's a box blade not a bulldozer. This situation is usually not covered by a warranty, you admitted it was operator error. A scarifier tooth is $10-15

Operator error?

Nah. Unfortunate for the operator, yes. But error? Nah.

Maybe you should be a little better at picking your shots. In my opinion...taking aim at someone who has just had a failure of a new product isn't quite right. I am sure you don't know all the circumstances surrounding this matter.

Had you curbed your post, I am sure this thread would have stalled with one or two replys...that's not a bad thing. Its a simple fix...I'm sure Corriher will take care of their customer, just as you appear to.

Spark a post by adding valid information....not by attempting to be malicious whether intended or not. You appear to be in position to impart a great deal of information. In my opinion, since you're known as a dealer / professional, you need to work extra hard to keep on balance and curb the 'in-thread' marketing a bit. You'll gain more respect if members understand your position, but see that you are posting for their benefit and not always for your own.

On to the next one .......

UPDATE: As previously stated I had contacted Corriher by e-mail and advised of the situation. I received a response. They advised that they were experiencing brittleness in the teeth on their boxblades. Today, they advise that they are forwarding 7 replacement teeth for the 7 shanks that are on the box. I consider this to be great customer service. Will advise more when I receive them. PS Have not had a chance to do anymore playing in the dirt since I broke the one so nothing new to report on that either. BobG in VA

Great news! Great service, too.

Bob, you'll notice a big difference in the tooth construction. Its a bit heavier all around. I welded mine on, since the replacements are for pin-on and not peened on. If I need to change I'll just grind it off...no big deal.

On to the next rock !! I love New England !
