Cost of 50 hr service

( The Farmtrac manual says to adjust the valves and torque the head bolts at the 50 hour interval on the little quick reference chart but in the main 50 hour service section there is no mention of doing it. )
I'm sure that's a misprint. The valves don't need to be adjusted for many many hours in the future. Checking the bolt torque on the heads and all over the tractor is always a good idea though. No harm in assuring the proper torque.

Thanks fella's, I thought they had a mistake there. It sounded crazy to me as well. Just wanted to be on the safe side.

Thanks,

I did the 50 hour and at 100 hours I did it again. Didn't look in the manual first...discovered you don't have to change the tractor fluid again at 100 hours. It's really a lot more fun than changing the oil in your car. You got oil dripping out of at least 7 places, magnets to clean, new zirks to spot that you never saw before spending so much time on your back.
For Oil I replaced both times with 100% synthetic. Replaced tractor fluid with Wal-Mart brand 1st time next with NAPA. Filters from Kioti dealer. Doing it yourself, you are able to let the fluids drip for an hour, wipe and clean everything properly.

Was there a good bit of filings stuck on the magnets the first time? On my Farmtrac the tranny and hydraulics are all together for a little better than 9 gallons. Farmtrac says to just change the big filter at the 50 hour mark and then change the fluid and filter at 400 hours. I was thinking of changing the fluid and filter at the 50 hour mark unless you guys think it's overkill. What do you think? The tractor has a manual shuttle type tranny.
Thanks,

John

I believe most Mfg. recommend doing the first oil change at 50 hours (motor oil and hydraulic fluid). Then at certain intervals thereafter.
So changing your tranny fluid and filter at 50 hours isn't considered overkill.

Thanks, I think I'll just go for it and change the fluid & filter. They tell you just to change the filter @ 50hrs and change the fluid & filter at 400 hrs. Thats why I was wondering if there was a good bit of trash that comes out the first time.

Thanks,

John

I've never been fond of the idea of changing only a filter, or only the oil. It's a good idea to change both because you just don't know how much of the new-metal filings you're going to have and if the magnet catches them all. Besides, it just can't hurt and doesn't cost that much to change the fluid as well.
