Cougar scat near the barn!

To be honest, gun or not, most big cat attacks happen from behind and the victim has no clue the cat is near.;)

They stalk and look for the stragglers, weak, or wounded. Any type of limp, stagger, or hesitation makes you a prime target. Children should always walk in front, not behind.

On the otherhand, they do not like humans and will avoid contact unless they are very hungry.

It is odd, but for years the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation denied that there were any cougars in Oklahoma. And when there was one causing problems in the Southwestern part of the State, they had to call a private naturalist to capture and deal with it. He put it in his private zoo.

We've had them spotted near me too. Two years ago a guy not more than three miles from my house hit one with his truck. NYS DEC came, and took it away. Only know about it because the state trooper that wrote up the accident report mentioned it, never made the papers.

I mow the grass with my Glock 35 on, makes popping the woodchucks a fun sport, but if I see any large cats, I'm shooting it dead. Period.

Hey, if the supposedly don't exist in the state, it must be okay to shoot them. Invasive species and all :)

The Cougars aren't allowed to cross state borders and enter Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Game Commission says there aren't ANY in this State unless it's a pet that got loose. What's really scary is these people believe their own press clippings.

We have encounters regularly around our place in Colorado - it is on the edge of the wilderness at 8500 feet, lots of deer and Elk and so of course mountain lions / cougars. They have never threatened us (so far), however our neighbor had to kill one - looked like it was old and could no longer hunt. Last year we found the remains (guts and hair) of an Elk the lion killed in the meadow - killed it and dragged it back up the mountain into the forest! That must have been a big cat. It is rare that they bother humans in our area as there is plenty of easier prey.

Back in October of 2008, a cougar was shot and killed in the city here.

Cougar shooting in city an international incident

Saskatoon has about 225,000 people smack in the middle of farming country with no real undeveloped land for miles and miles...except for the Saskatchewan river valley which passes through the center of the city. It's (almost) a certainty that the cougar followed it into the city. The "A" flag roughly marks the spot where the cougar was found and killed.

Also, scat in the roadway is a sign of a big cat. They like to leave warning/no trespassing signs.:)

Yeah, they said that for years and years here in Missouri too. LOL..then when you see your first track, you know you have been lied to all that time.. Now game camera pix are so common it is not news any more. They are here.. and I bet you got 'em too!
