Agreed, my feelings exactly. I just can't put it into words as well.

one of the things reading this thread, and others, has done is motivate me to get gun locks for my rifle and shotgun. They came
yesterday, about ten bucks a piece.

Well I guess if a gun is use for protection, it could out, it is being used.

Ken, really are you worried about someone coming into your house at night. Really??? Move than. Come live beside me, I do not lose sleep feeling afraid of the boogyman coming into my house at night. I do not have a gun ready under my pillow either.
I think this I need protection thing is just an excuse.

Sorry for my rant. I do not mean to stir emotions on the subject. Just lock up your guns so some nut job does not get to it.

I really, really hate to "stir the pot" too, but I just have to say something. One of my duties was to interview crime victims as well as offenders and submit "Victim Impact Statements" to be used by the court and corrections officials. In over 30 years of speaking with victims of violence and other crimes I never spoke with anyone, said anything other than, "I never thought this could happen to me". Rape victims were among the hardest, but all touched by violence were pretty hard. I knew one of our support staff for years before she ever shared her story of victimization with me as she was scheduled to appear at a local correctional institute. She was home alone with her small child and all she could think of was how to save her child and survive. She did not own a firearm then, but does now. Will she ever be attacked again, not likely, but it lets her sleep at night.

Sorry for the rant, but don't tell those of us who have had experienced violence that we "don't need a gun", are paranoid or living in a fantasy world. I don't live in fear and accept the likelihood of ever needing a weapon are pretty small, but I will never allow my family or myself to be defenseless in the event it does happen.

Something to remember and learn from. As have the parents of the children in the Newtown CT school shooting. I live a mile from Newtown PA. Spooky.
Like the Boy Scouts, we all should "be prepared". In a "civilized" world, one would hope that not every man, woman and child would have to carry firearms to accomplish that.
We have an expectation of safety in our world that for many may be unrealistic and naive. Smart girls don't walk alone at night in dark alleys, regardless of their right to.
Or if they do, they sure better be prepared. I have given my wife pepper spray in several Xmas stockings. She rolls her eyes but dutifully puts them in her purse. Whether she can find them in time
is always an issue.

I sure hope the person that told Ken to "MOVE" from his home when there are crimes all over??? People like that should have to live around crack heads and meth addicts. Having to MOVE ok abandon your home to them? how about the person that said this feel about handing his wife over to rapists and killers feel?

KEN Like ALL OF US has the right to defend himself, his family and his property as well as the right to the pursuit of happiness. That HAPPINESS resides most often in ones home with ones family and friends. Defending such is #1 in my book...

I simply stated that I don't sleep with a gun under my pillow and I still sleep soundly. If you don't feel safe at home than move. Reasonable?

So, to set this straight. If crack heads, meth heads, etc, move in your area or, start breaking into homes, etc,. Instead of buying something to protect yourself & your property, etc,. You'll just pack up and move and let the Thugs have it all ??. Boy, that sure is showing the thugs who's boss. I think /know I'll stand my GROUND and fight for what I have

Honestly, when is last time a crack heads was in your home? Where do you live? Getto?

Here another point, its saturday evening so what he!!

So some crack breaks into your home at kills you. Oh well cost of doing business I guess. No wait. Let all get guns and PROTECT ourselves right. Than some nut job get a gun and....let's say...ummm kills 20 first graders. Cost of doing business? Hmmm I don't think so.

Something needs to be fixed! I sugest you lock up your guns. Don't like it? Suggest something better! Cause status quo isn't working either! I can look into my six years eyes and say I love you, I know 20 fathers who can't! Something needs to change!

Sorry Rant! oops!

It is not necessarily that a person doesn't feel safe, rather acknowledging that we really never know what might happen and being prepared for the worse case scenario. I am not afraid and sleep quite well, but I choose to keep a firearm handy.

Some may choose to run away if something becomes unpleasant; I don't, it is not in my nature.

You don't have to live in the getto. Drug heads are everywhere here. Some crack head breaks into my home and he / she is dead ! I have never locked my guns and don't intend to. Yes something needs to be done. They need to keep these idots locked up instead of giving them a few yrs. Heck, I wouldn't care if they got rid of all these criminals the old fason way. ill there be other mass killings ? Probably. Will it be with guns ? Who knows it could be with bombs, etc,. The police chief in a major city near me once told everyone to put the guns away just for 1 weekend to stop the shootings. The next day, the news reported that someone was stabbed to death. The guns didn't kill all of these people. It took 1 sick puppy to walk in and pull the trigger. I can say this. I'LL never pack my bags and RUN ! BTW. I just renewed my NRA membership today and signed up my son
