Country deliveries to 'locked gate'... what do you do?

I'm sure you have already had this discussion but tell her never to open the door like that. Scary stuff. I have no gate but do have a driveway alarm that senses heat and will detect animals, humans or vehicles. Even when I'm home with a 9mm in my hand I talk through the door, I never open it if someone comes after dark. I also have cameras on each side of the house. FedEX does come pretty late some times.

I don't think a door would stop anyone intent on a criminal act.

How about a Donation Box. Get your packages AND FREE clothing!

We're off a private road with only a couple houses on it, well up in the mountains. We have a gate and the house is 800' from it and can't be seen. For 20 years we've just used a big Rubbermaid type box behind the gate. As far as we can tell nothings' been stolen. Unlike the mail box which is way down by the public road. I switched to high quality locking mailboxes long ago and I still have to replace it every 5 years or so when criminals use crowbars to break into the mailboxes.

The gate and the steep hill to the house keeps a lot of unwanted visitors away. All the neighbors have had break-ins over the last 20 years, we haven't.

This made me think, which usually make me google... Here are some ideas that I found:

dVault.com | Secure Package Mailboxes for Home or Business

Something like this looks like what I want to build. I'd have to run the numbers to see what it would take to make one bigger, or if their prices are worth just buying from them or somebody similar. I like that multiple packages can be delivered to it, and that you need a key to get the packages out.

I had one amazon box recently torn to pieces. I though, mail lady must have thrown it on the porch, from the looks of it. Looked at my video, the mail lady got out of the vehicle, and bent down and laid it on the porch. So it got abused before it got to her.

!

But still not a real good idea opening the door in the middle of the night when home alone in a rural area, right?

Where I live most are seasonal folks and we suffer annual break ins.

My solution has been to have a nice decorative gate and NEVER lock or close it.
Another is to never leave the trash bins by the road.

Locked gates and trash bins are sure signs that nobody is home.
I have lived here both seasonly and permantly for over 50 years and very active in our owners association.

Oh other 'tricks' also work, like lights on timers, loud music and some even leave an old car in the driveway.
We are so far that alarms linked to police don't work as thieves have almost 1 hour B4 and patrol arrive.

The other day we had a power outage and I almost collided with 2 police cruisers that raced in.
Somebody's alarm got triggered by the outage.

The only time cops race to an alarm around here is to try out some hot new pursuit cruiser!

A neighbor once always left a small radio playing on CBC in his garage/shed. Often just talking on that station. Amazing how that makes one think someone must be around. If I have to go somewhere briefly with everything let open, I often turn on a radio.

Some people call me paranoid, but I try and make them understand that no one ever plans on being broken into. Being in the security bus, I have seen it usually takes people by complete surprise.

Mine just get tied onto or set over the gate. I get immediate emails when deliveries are made. I am retired so usually home to retrieve them.

How many packages do you get? A big box with a padlock. Leave the padlock UNLOCKED. Leave printed instruction on top of the box to put package in box and LOCK padlock. If you get multiple a day have multiple such boxes.

Obviously need to secure box to fence or some other immovable object so it is not stolen.
