The house just down the road was broken into, during the day. They guy parked a ways away and came in on foot. Apparently he was interrupted and escaped on foot. They think it was the same guy. I'm not concerned if I am there. I am armed. However, I think this whole episode has finally awakened my wife to reality. We had a long talk about opening doors, etc. She has always been oblivious in this way. When I met her, she lived literally, one street out of the 'hood' and simply didn't take any precautions. She griped when her garage was broken into and when they stole her wheel barrow, and when her house was broken into but the dog chased the guy away... but she still seems to think 'it can't happen to me'. I think, however, this might have cracked that veneer.

I think I'll put a box out by the road for now. At least it will be 'hidden' when things are delivered. And I utilize Amazon A LOT!!! Probably 2-3 deliveries a month, at least.

This is not a solution of where to place and protect packages, but it is an aid to being alerted to when they are delivered so you can retrieve them - assuming you are at home:

Amazon.com: Chamberlain CWA2 Weatherproof Outdoor/Driveway Wireless Motion Alarm and Alert System, Includes 1 Battery/AC Powered Base Receiver and 1 CWPIR Sensor, Additional CWPIR Sensors Sold Separately: Home Improvement

We have used one of these for years at the end of our 850' driveway. Beeps in the house whenever anyone (for whatever reason) approaches the gate at the road end of the driveway.

In Washington not too far from the house is the local mercantile and filling station... it is the only establishment for miles in both directions and the proprietors are most helpful... by custom, oversized packages are left at the mercantile... works great.

People are loyal to the mercantile in that everyone I know buys gas there and it is great if your short something without having to make a drive into town.

It would be a real loss if this little local gem was ever lost.

Not to veer off topic but you are far from being an excessive Amazon user. We get 2-3 a week or more. Prime is awesome.
