Coveralls-

I have been looking for a pair of coveralls that are the standard weight (not insulated) with a zipper on the leg so I don't have to remove my boots each time I put on or take off the coveralls.
Red Kap does not make them anymore and Key Industries does but is not providing me with any customer service in answering my questions about sizes. Key wants a restocking fee and wants me to pay for return shipping if they don't fit.

Having someone put in zippers is an option but not the best option.

Does anyone out there know of another brand that has the zipper on the leg.

Look around the Sportsman Guide site. I think they had non-insulated coveralls. I just linked to the first ones I saw with a zipper.

Some of these are factory "seconds". I've a bib overall (Carhartt's) factory second (from Sportsman's Guide) that have served me well for 10 years

I have a couple of sets of uninsulated coveralls but neither has zippered legs. My insulated ones have that feature. I have never seen any uninsulated coveralls with zippered legs. If you find any please let me know. (I will keep looking as well)

Well billybob, I realize you are looking for non-insulated but I have a pair of thinly insulated OSH-KOSH B'Gosh that were approximately half the cost and weight of Carhartt and mush less bulky. I've had both and prefer OSH-KOsh B'Gosh. Mine are probably 10 years old and designs change sometimes but mine have a zipper leg that goes nearly to the waist band which I find real convenient.

But I do prefer overalls for ease of in and out of vehicles, bending and possible urgent Uncle John trips to the crapper, with this style suspender buckle.

Maybe I should have been a B'Gosh salesman rather than a mechanic.

Carhart makes them, I have a set. I had to order them originally but can now buy them at the local farm store.

What I don't like about the newer Carhartt's is the leg zipper goes well above the knee! My older ones just zip to the knee.

Another possibility is to take them to a shoe shop & have a heavy duty zipper put in. I was told this morning our local shoe shop will do it fairly cheaply! ~~ grnspot

There is a difference between coveralls and overalls. I am looking for coveralls and not bib overalls.
I talked to a supervisor at Sportsman's and he was unable to recall any coveralls that have a zipper in the leg other than insulated, he also told me that he did not have time to look through all of the coveralls that are listed on there website to find them.

I Found these Key brand at the "Working Person's Store". Most of the unlined have zippers to the knee, or above. ( They also have the best deal on the net I could find, for a "scrusher" boot cleaner w/base)

Doesn't help you with the fit issue though. Maybe find a local retailer that handles them, and try on some different sizes..??

I ordered a pair of Berne brand last year, from another online store. Just got them a size larger than my jeans size, figuring I wouldn't be wearing them when it was cold, and no heavy clothing underneath. They fit everywhere but across the shoulders, and way too tight, with just a T-shirt on.

I know with the insulated one's, I always went 4 sizes larger than my waist, simply because operating equipment, if too small sitting down, it would pull on my shoulders, and would be aching by the end of the day. Didn't wear them all that often though..., mostly insulated bibs. I always get these 4" larger than my waist. Anything less, and it's like a cheap hotel...

I have worn both coveralls and overalls for 50 years. I prefer overalls for most work as they are less binding. I won't buy anything other than Carhartt in overalls and they make the zipper legs, but I do not like them. If you buy them get the built in knee pads also, saves the "old" knees. They are cotton canvas and wear like iron.

I have Carharts without the zippers - there've been many times I wished I had those zips. When the coveralls were new, I felt like a farmer wannabe, but now that they are permanently stained with grease, bar oil and grime they are like a second skin. Bailey's has what you want ...

I have a couple pairs of the R37's too. Sure are easy to peel off over those clod hoppers, if you have and 80 mile ride home. :thumbsup:

Although they are not made with leg zippers, that I am aware of, I have worn "Dickies" coveralls and bib overalls since my teens. I have found them to be both durable and comfortable. They are relatively low priced also.

Thanks for all of your help. Gempler's has the Key Industries brand that are an 8.5 oz. cotton/poly blend with the zippered leg. Their customer service was excellent and I would recommend them to anyone. THEY ROCK!!!
