jimgerken, Absobloominlootely true! I have picked up two loads on my 10,000 lb net capacity trailer and have 2-3 more to go depending on fit for packing purposes. My original intent was to use them to make a bullet proof (I mean it in the literal sense!) barrier between my neighbor's shooting gallery and my property. I am puting out the word that I will accept "clean" (no rebar or wire or ...) broken concrete to be hauled to my property. I will allow folks to dump it for free. So far I have not connected BUT I say the house being moved out and asked. Now I have made yet another friend, Max.
Max is a stout fellow who comes out and helps me load his debris. I stay in the tractor mostly and he helps get the heavy chunks onto the forks or gives me hand signals as visibility in some fork positions is truly lousy. Sure, he would have had to pay anyone else to get it hauled off, but I offered to pick it up and haul it just to get it. It never hurts to do a favor for someone or let them have a good deal. I may never ask anything of Max but that isn't important. Better a friend or friendly contact than to make a couple bucks.
If I should end up with excess material to my needs, especially large sections of sidewalk, I thought I might place a sidewalk out into a pond. I could stroll out into the pond without stirring up as much mud or sinking in. Sure it would get silted some over time but would still make better footing than the natural bottom.
I thought of laying some of it down as curbing along side the graveled driveway where it crossess a culvert. It would do two things: 1. make traffic shy away from the dropoff, 2. reduce erosion at the culvert/low spot.
