Keep a tractor on order but the cow thing is not a bad idea. You would have to put up at least a five strand barbwire fence with the attendant corner braces and at least one gate, a small pen substantial enough to hold a cow, and that would allow loading into a trailer and provide water to the animal. If you still wanna be a cowboy, then get a couple third trimester bred cows in the early spring/late winter, let them calve and sell off the "herd" in the fall when you dont have any grass, then repeat the following year or do the freezer steer thing if you have enough folks to eat a beef. I hate to see good grass go to waste. My neighbor has his own five hole golf course on his property. Me and my cows can only watch him mow his grass in the early spring when there aint much to eat around here, especially if its a dry spring like this year.
