Most of the time, when they bust you, you'll never even know they were coming in, as they will be long gone before you ever see them.

This seems amazingly challenging and I am impressed people are able to sit entirely still for 30 minutes while hunting.

I hear the coyotes every evening. I see them weekly. I have never had a valid reason to shoot a coyote and I never will. They provide a valued service - like the hawks and owls.

I agree but there are situations where the population gets out of control or they do what they they do best - they are opportunity hunters. So if you have venerable livestock like my neighbors baby goats & chickens unprotected...well. I also notice here Housing is recently built on old hunting grounds and people are freaked out because the coyotes still hunt. Only the prey has changed from pocket gophers to pocket dogs. What did they expect

scooter - unfortunately your post - #105 - is true and very valid. My neighbor on my immediate south is a BIG cattle rancher. With good reason - he has no love loss for coyotes. He and his dogs do their best but every years he will loose a single or two spring calves to the coyotes.

It's his livelihood that he is loosing. In my particular case - I have no livestock and it's Brownie that I'm concerned for.

Makes a whole lot of difference and your outlook on life.

Coyotes can be bad as a pack but they aren't crap on what a wolf pack can do. I've seen what a wild dog can do in person.

Only good wild dog is a dead one. Of course, this is just my opinion.

If you're a shotgunner, the Hevishot Dead Coyote load is a winner out to 70 yards or so. Beyond that, a .223 or .243 will handle them as far as you can hit them.
