Coyotes coming close to house

Foxes move in here from time to time. Pay no attention to me. Eliminate all raccoons rabbits squirrels then move on. After a while the small things come back.

What a pity, socialism has begin spreading to wildlife. Self respecting coyotes would harvest stray cats rather than become dependent on garbage cans and pet food bowls. :santahat:

Coyotes aren't stupid. I suspect garbage and pet food tastes better than raw cat and takes a lot less work, too. ;)

I like the animals coming around. The coyotes, owls etc, but that's one of the reason's i live out in the sticks. I don't understand why some people are so freaked out about the animals, but then im not them and don't have their experiences and in general, some people are more fear driven, maybe justifiably.

Whack one and leave it on your fence or property line- they seem to get the idea and stay away after that.

What's so hard to understand?

It has nothing to do with *fear*...

The OP has a small dog. Small dog vs. coyotes = small dog loses every time.

Why is this so hard to grasp? The world (reality) is NOT like the Disney movies.

OP,

You're going to have to shoot a few. A 12 ga with 3" #5's works great for close to the house. After that, take your pleasure, 223, 22-250, 243, etc, loaded with varmint bullets.

I've lucky so far. Heard them but haven't seen any. We've got about 250 acres of woods behind us so I would think they have enough food back there not to come too close. The times I do hear them I will pop off a few rounds in that direction and I'll be good for awhile. I do walk the property pretty often and look for tracks. I do find some outside the fence line. I will feel no pity taking one out if it gets too close. Like the OP, I also have a few small dogs. Found this one about 200 yards behind the house last fall. This is outside the fence line so I know it's not one of my dogs.

South central Wisconsin? Where abouts? I have some friends in the Oregon/Brooklyn area that might be willing to "eradicate" for free (or maybe a case of beer).

YES THIS
except if you are talking 50' from the house you might want to go with a 357 lever gun or a 9mm carbine. I don't know what your backdrop past them is.
