I think a "bounty" is a good idea for every state. The states need to relax the laws on semi-auto rifle hunting, and let the young guys get out there and bring down the populations.

Been here forty years...always had coyotes...along with a few turkey, many squirrels, too many deer, plenty of rabbits, opossums, too many geese, enough coons etc., and no more quail. See a Bobcat now and then. Never heard of any small dogs or people being bothered, including me. Now incessant barking dogs are a PITA, and I'd be more afraid of some idiot with a rifle than the coyotes. Suburban Eastern Kansas.

100%, absolutely true!! im more afraid of an idiot with a gun than any animal in my neck of the woods, im 20 years in my place and have basically everything that you have described and never had any issues. would like to have the coon/skunks/squirrel populations lowered, they dont serve a purpose to anyone anyways, but it is what it is. well said:thumbsup:

They are beginning to be a problem in the rural areas around Cols. Oh. They have snatched several pets. No rabbits in my area. See one once in a while. Hear them at night. Have 5 cats, two live in the woods all are outside cats. Every day have a cat count to make sure one has not been eaten. I remember when I was around 5 years old and we moved out west in the 40's you could drive down the highway and see then hanging from fence posts for miles. I asked why they were there and some one pulled my leg and said they tried to jump the fence and got hung up. By the late 50's by poisoning them and shooting them you very seldom ever saw one.

They are thick here in SE Oklahoma .. Hunters are always bagging as many as possible seems to have little impact.

I've never lost a domestic animal such as a dog or a cat .. Coyotes really are scared away easily .. I've seen them stand along the sides of the hay fields as we cut hay snatching rodents who run from the hay field .. Step out if the tractor yell and wave your arms and they scram .. I've never felt in danger around them.

Try that trick in Denver where it has been a "no shoot" zone for years now and see where it gets you. It got an able bodied man attacked by 3 coyotes recently who was walking to work inside city limits.

Observations made by folks living out in the country do not transfer well to the "alternative reality" that exists inside cities and counties that have been run by liberals for decades. Chicago is a good example with hundreds if not thousands of coyotes and the city has basically made it unlawful to leave your home armed with anything for decades. Concealed carry was won by the supreme court last year, but I have not heard of any numbers yet of permits issued since the ruling. LA is another city where it is well known that the police chief did not issue a single carry permit in years, in what is a pretty dangerous city.

In these places, coyotes are just another thing you have to be concerned about...

People hunt in the woods close to our house during deer season, I always worry about them getting turned around and shooting towards the house. Only once have I ever seen a coyote close to the house, usually I just hear them. We have the dogs 6o lbs, 40 lbs and a little 12 pound mini schnauzer, we only worry about the schnauzer. The bigger dogs can take care of themselves.

A few years ago while preparing a small bonfire behind our Upstate NY farmhouse during a visit and I heard a rustling in the woods nearby. Shined the flashlight and there were a pair of coyotes, I think a male and female pair, 7 feet away chowing down on some cooking scraps my wife had tossed there. I just stood there and after a little while they wandered off into the woods. Have not seen any feral cats recently, but plenty of turkeys and deer the last few years.

Feral hogs seem more of an issue downstate and to the West.

We've got em in central Michigan too. Occasionally hunted by some local guys and frankly they're seldom a problem. However a little disconcerting to be sitting in ones recliner one evening not long ago and seeing a pair not more than ten feet away from the window scrounging around under the bird feeders. I think their population is on the rise.
