MTD makes sears.your best bet would be to go with a John Deere 102,115, or 125 they are alot heavier machine then the craftsman.

MTD does NOT make the tractors for Sears. AYP (Electrolux) does.

Get ready to see Honda power in many LGT's, as Honda has discontinued producing their own lineup of LGT's to be an exclusive supplier of small engines to LGT manufacturers, much in the way Kawasaki did. Honda does still sell their own walk behind mowers though, but they felt they could no longer be competitive in the small LG tractor segement in the USA and Canada.

Honda does not compromise quality or have a, "Here is our economy one, and here is our good engine," lineup like Kohler and Briggs have been strong-armed into doing with the Command/Courage and Vanguard/Intek lines. Kawasaki can't afford to lose their reputation that way either, thus they have no, "cheapo," lineup of small engines either.

Look to see the Honda small engines in the top end of many maker's lineups, as JD uses Kawi in their high end gas powered LGT's.

I put a Honda GX610 18 HP V-twin in my CC 682, and I can't say enough good things about this small engine- I have ran just about each and every small engine ever produced, and the Honda GX is the best I've encountered by far. I still love Kohler, yet the Honda GX is cloud 9 in my unbiased HO /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Every Craftsman we ever owned, the engine ran long after the mower deck was swiss cheese. Never had any trouble with the motors just the sand eating away the deck.

when I bought my house it came with a beater craftsman with Kohler command engine. Frame was bent, couldn't level the deck, but the engine ran great. I bought a yardman from my neighbor that looked good and ran for $150. After about 6 mowings, I blew up the BS I/C engine that was in it. I went and bought my wife a CC 2042, took the engine out of the Craftsman, fit it into the yardman and it's still going!
