The difference between Craftsman and Harbor Freight is simple. The closest HF to me is 3 hours away. There are (still) 3 within an hour. I have broken some Craftsman tools in the past but over all they have held up pretty good. The few HF tools haven't fared as well. I have multiple wrenches that just bent, I've broken a 3/4" ratchet and then breaker bar trying to remove a 2 1/4" nut on a pintile ring (that my 1/2" craftsman breaker didn't break on).
Years ago Orange County Choppers built a bike for Snap-On. They actually got some hand tools off of the production line that hadn't been finished yet. It was interesting. I think the price reflects the fact that they are made to very high tolerances. Where the trucks get paid for is by all the mechanics who finance the tools they need/ want. It's easy to rake in the dough when you can shop without leaving work (or even taking time off) and they set it up so they just take your loan payment right out of your check each week.

I just roll my eyes at the notion of buying hand tools that are so expensive you have to take a loan out to get them.

I bought a couple full sets of Craftsman wrenches and sockets 30 years ago and used them ever since. Never broke or bent anything. At the time I could have paid over twice as much for fancier tools, but I did not see the point. Now I am gathering them up and giving to my son in law at Thanksgiving. Hard to see how any amount of money spent could have provided better service and functionality than those old Craftsman hand tools.

I have made my living with tools for many years. I would never dream of taking out a loan for basic hand tools. Let alone a $5000 toolbox to put them in.
Specialty tools of a specific trade....yea maybe. But basic wrench sets and socket sets. No thank you

Curious if you took the HF tools back to HF for replacement. If not, why not?

I never did it either, but everyone is different...
I don't buy tractors on time, but it happens all the time on this site...
