I'm not a big Craftsman fan, wouldn't own their power tools, but think their hand tools are pretty decent.
Never exchanged anything before so I figured I'd give it a try, had a few old Craftsman ratchets that I picked up here and there, they still worked fine but looked pretty beat up, so I brought a 1/2 and a 3/8 ratchet to replace, figured I'd get some shinny new ones.
They didn't give me any problems at all, just gave me 2 reconditioned ones, so I thought I made out well till I looked closely at them and realized the ones I returned were better made than the new ones, I don't like the plastic levers on them now.

JB, I'm not familiar with those, so I don't know whether the plastic is a good idea or not, but the first time I ever got an Ingersol-Rand IR2131 half inch impact wrench in for repairs, my first thought was "you gotta be kiddin'; a plastic impact wrench". But it turned out to be the most powerful one they made at the time and was a big seller.:D

Yes here lies the trouble. so unless they change their ways you'll be going back more, mine were jammed up from the start.As i said I soaked them in oil for a week, and nothing so I assume it internal.
Now could you imagine a rebuilt quality one hanging ton the hood as new?
I took another look and have an SK and a K mart.(before sears bought out) so Ill be ok. but next time im in the big city ill have to exchange them yet again.
Perhaps this is regional I don't know. but I'm going to get into a 'mood' and tell them I want the one off the hook.

I worked for Sears for a while, the older Craftsman stuff was very good. The new stuff is junk. Even if it does not break... the fit is poor and you end up mangling nuts and bolt heads. I have found that if salesman won't do an exchange, or gives you a hard time... just tell him "no problem... I will just make a quick call to corporate" At least that used to get QUICK results. Stores REALLY didn't want 'corporate' involved. Since I can't afford Snap-On, and the Sears stuff is junk now... I am looking for a good source of replacement tools. I guess I am hearing that the stuff at HD and Lowes is not too bad, will have to give them a try.

good luck with the call to corporate. I had a problem with a delivery and I tried to call corporate I could not find any way to get the number. Years ago they had a corporate customer servive center but that seems to be gone now.

I had a little problem with Sears earlier this year and talked to a lady who got it straightened out and she also told me if I had a problem to call them at 1-888-528-6326 (marketing division where they are concerned about keeping customers) and that they also have a national complaint number of 1-800-927-7836.

That was in May of this year and I haven't had occasion since to call those numbers, so no guarantee.

Hopefully with the tough economic times we are having, they will listen to those calls.

thanks builder. that was pretty close to when I had problems but my problems were with delivery. they could not give me a delivery time between 8am and noon when someone was going to be home and they did not delilver to my area on saturday the delivery manager could not even get it worked out. Basically the store manager told them to deliver my stove to their store and he would have some of his workers bring it out on a truck. That is how they finally resolved the problem but to have it delivered to my house I had to take off from work and wait on them to get it delivered.

never broke any of my Sears rachets, broke several sockets, screw drivers, combo wrenches, took back and got new ones ,no questions.
My complaint is the tools bought in last 10-15 years have lousy chrome plating, one winter and they rust, my old stuff still ok. Even my Harbor Freight throwaway stuff has better chrome plating than sears.
