Can you install a JD 2240 Crank seal without special tool.

It looks like it is similar to this seal replacement video and I think it would be tough to do it without the tool. The seal must push in hard because it is a press fit in the block and on the crank and it must be installed straight.

Yes I watched that video. Expensive tool for one install.

There are a bunch of non-deere seal installers sold online. Will a shop loan/rent one to you?

You can partially install it using the flywheel. Then you know it goes on straight. You'll have to tap it the rest of the way in though. If you're careful you can get it in there without getting it cockeyed.
Alternatively if you have access to a lathe you can make your own
