Creating a Home for Sam

Eddie I hope everything turns out OK. Our local news paper just reported a rabies incident.
About a month ago I was chased by a vicious pack of dogs in the woods. I started to run to my golf cart and was going to jump on top but then decided to attack them instead. I ran at them yelling and screaming and they were running at me growling and barking it was tense for a minute but then they broke and ran away.
Karen's walking stick now has a small compressed air horn duct taped to it.
Good luck, we will be thinking of Steph and her son.

Eddie, I'm so sorry about Peyton and his experience with Sam. I'm sure the trauma will take awhile to heal; most likely much longer than the physical wounds.

I previously had seen this thread posted, but hadn't opened it until this morning. Kathy and I were both reading and then saw the bad news. She and I both agreed that Sam must have taken a possessive attitude toward Steph and saw Peyton as a threat. Kathy made the comment that she always tried to get a puppy for her children to raise so the puppy would have time to develop the correct view of his position in the family before it gets as big as Sam and can't cope with the "pecking order." My guess is that Sam will be found to not be rabid, but you had no choice. We would all have had to do the same thing.

I hope all of you can put this unfortunate turn of events behind you quickly. Your motives were all in the right place, but sometimes that's not enough. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Thank you everyone for your kindness and words of encouragement.

The Health Department called this morning and to tell us the results were negative.

With what we have planned for the land and running an RV Park, having a dog will be more of a hassle than a benifit. I agree that it would be nice for the kids to have one while growing up, but for now, we're gonna hold off on that for awhile.

Eddie, so sorry this happened, especially for Peyton. You did the only thing you could do, the dog had to be destroyed or you could never leave Peyton and the dog together. No way to know what or why it happened. I hope for Peyton's speedy recovery.

Eddie, I wanted to ask the other day but I figured if you had news you'd say and I'm sure you guys were counting the minutes as it was. This is wonderful news, hope Steph's son is healing OK in both regards.

Glad to hear the good news. I'm sure that's what was expected, but like you, I'd have to be sure.
