Creating a Lake

Eddie,
I was going through some of the earlier posts on your thread and noticed that you refer to Steph as your "girl friend" not too long ago. It's funny how things change in a short period of time. Now she's the famous "wild hog slayer" queen on TBN.
BTW...Oh jeez...I hope I got that right, I seem to have read you guys got married, right?

I love all those pictures of your land and project(s).

Rob,

Thanks. Our engagment was pretty short. Once I gave her the ring, I was ready to get married. If the family hadn't tried to take over, we still might be engaged, but since we eloped, it happened pretty quickly.

Did you see the pics in the other thread?

Bird, that Fisher and 40 hp should be just the ticket. The wife and I caught between 35 and 40 catfish this morning (can legally keep 20 in Kansas, that's what we kept) We fish every weekend if at all possible. Did you get a 4 stroke motor? They are really quite and smooth.

Bill, I've read that the four stroke engines are quieter, heavier, less pollution, less power, may last longer, may not last as long, etc.:D In other words, both pros and cons. Had I been buying a new one, I'd have wanted the four stroke, but this one isn't. In fact, I was also seriously considering a 2002 ProCraft 165 that had a 60 hp four stroke engine but when I took my wife to see it yesterday, they had already sold it. So the one I bought is two stroke with the separate oil reservoir; i.e., oil injection. It'll be interesting to see what the performance is like with a 40 hp engine on a boat rated for up to 75 hp. But I'm sure it will be adequate for me. And while it's a 2003 model, it looks just like the 2006 model.

Yeah, that's why I was pretty sure, but you know when you get old....
Those pictures where real nice and a beautiful setting. You are a lucky man indeed!
Question...is Steph a better shot than you? hahaha Im sure that Marine Corps training sticks with you for life...Expert Marksman or better, I'm sure.
Eddie, I may have missed this but how large is your lake going to be? And how many acres do you own out there?

Hey Bill,
You and the Misses are fishing fools. I read you were going out in the pouring rain again this weekend anyway??

Rob,

Steph is a very good shot with the .22 at a target. She's steady and her concentration is amazing. She suffers from buck fever to a small degree and needs some coaching to make the shot. With more experience, she'll be able to concentrate on trigger control, breathing, site picture and bullet placement. What's really interesting is she was watching OLN this morning and getting exited about a caribou hunt. I've shot two types of caribou and would love to hunt the others. Wouldn't it be great is she wanted to go to??

Before the dam was built, and it was just an idea on the dirt where I'd put it, I did some rough measurements. I had to zig around some log piles, guess on the location of the dam and peninsulas. At that time, I came up with close to 240,000 sqare feet.

I really should go out there again and figure it out before the rains get here. If for no other reason, it would be nice to be able to say how big it is and be accurate.

The land is 68.5 acres, but I don't own it. My LLC owns it and I own the LLC.

I took these pictures this morning to give you an idea of the dirt pile to haul out when the dump truck is done. When it's done, and if it's still dry out, I'll make another dirt pile. My goal is to get as much dirt out as I can before the rains get here.

When it gets too wet to keep hauling dirt, I'll close the valve, put in the culverts and let mother nature do her thing. There will be two culverts. One 15 inch on the side that doesn't get much runoff, and an 18 inch in the middle. On the other side, there is an open trench that will catch the majority of my watershed. Overall, there should be 80 to 100 acres of watershed.

Eddie

Oh man, those pictures really put it in perspective! That is a HUGE project. I have enough trouble with the little projects I get myself into. That one is on a grand scale. Good luck with the rains this year too.
Keep the updates and pictures coming.
