The cupola is up, but still needs more framing between the ribs and bracing to tie it all together and hold it to the rafters.

Part of the picture in my head is for eaves to be round. I think it's important and if I don't do it, I'll regret it. I wont go into all the details of my failures, but after wasting yesterday afternoon and most of the day today doing it wrong, I figured it out Now I get to spend all of next weekend doing the other three corners.

Eddie, how many times did you crawl up that ladder? Seems almost every board was a special cut. Waiting to see the roofline. Your roof might be mis-viewed as some sort of deep space antenna by a satellite.

I'm finally done framing out the eves. Going round is something new for me, so the learning curve slowed me down quite a bit. While walking past it, I looked up and liked the way the light was shining on my rafters, so I took this picture.

My decking is going to be 1/4 inch OSB that I'm going to put down in two layers with overlapping seams. Since my rafters are 16 inches on center, I'm hoping that should work out. What I'm not sure is how much bend I can get out of a full sheet and if I'll have to rip them in half or even four pieces 1 foot by 8 feet. I don't have a choice, so it's probably going to be a combination of all of the above.

You are getting close to being in shipwright territory with the roof on this project...quite impressive:thumbsup:

Eddie, what if you cut 1/8" depth every 1/4"- 1/2" or so in the OSB? may allow the sheet to bend more. Sure would be a PITA. but I bet it would help it flex.

Just throw the OSB in the lake for a day. It would follow all the contours then. Lol
That is a spectacular structure. I must make sure my wife never sees IT !

I'm getting down to the final decision on what to use for shingles. I don't want the main roof to be the same as the cupola. What would you use, and where would you buy it?

Cedar plank and dark shingles would go good with the cedar post, or shiny tin and cedar planks.

Copper would be the "bomb"!!!

I think cedar shake would look dramatic on it. Keeps it with the organic flavor of the curves. Kind of looks hobittish!

Eddie, when I saw this picture the first thing I thought was how a piece of stained glass would look in this opening on the roof, especially with the sun shinning on it.

But then again people may start showing up for Sunday Services

I also think Cedar shakes are the way to go. They can be conformed to the unique design you've made, are true to the influences from your travels that I believe influenced your design and will last with little maintenance for years. Whatever you decide I look forward to seeing the end result.
