Future Equipment in Longview (on Eastman Road) I'm sure you know, is a Case Dealer that may be of some help. Next door to them is Russell & Sons who I'm sure you know have HUGE earthmoving equipment and may be able to give some advise on who can rebuild the turbo.

Eddie, before you have your turbo repaired, pull the plug on the oil pan of the engine and check to see if you have any coolant in your oil, it may be a cylinder wall or head gasket that went. The reasoning behind this is WHITE SMOKE = WATER and there is no water in the turbo. The same thing happened to me on my turbo'd truck, all kinds of oil comming out of the turbo when #3 cylinder wall let go and dumped the coolant into the oil pan thus overfilling the oil and out thru the turbo. Hope this is not what happened to you-Replaceing the engine VERY EXPENSIVE /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

M&D Diesel in Houston I believe they still work on turbos. Main business is fuel systems. They are on North Shepard near I-45. Also as mentioned make sure it's just the turbo. Start it up and make sure no other water coming out of the exhaust.

Sounds like the seals in the turbo went if it's spraying oil.

Good Luck,
Rob

If the turbo actually blew, and started dumping oil out the exhaust, the smoke should have been more bluish to charcoal to black in color. Was it really white or very light grey smoke and did it smell of unburnt diesel? If so, then you may have a failed injector dumping too much fuel into the cylinder, and/or other piston issues.

Sorry for not updating everyone.

After asking around and doing a little research, I found out about Majestic Turbo in Waco. I drove there to drop it off even though they usually get everything in from UPS. I wanted to be there when they took it apart and see the damage for myself. Waco is 125 miles one way.

I did look at the oil in the pan before and it's fine. Thanks for the tip.

The shaft that connects the turbines is totally worn. They said its from a lack of lubrication. I'll have to figure that out as to why oil didn't get to the shaft. It could have been something that happened awhile ago and it finally wore out, or it could be a new developement.

They told me they could rebuild it with a new cartridge, but didn't have one on hand. As of this morning, they have everything in except a set of bearings. That should happen in the next day or so.

Cost to rebuild it and shipping it back to me UPS will be $500.

Hey Eddie,

Got 3.25" of rain overnight just west of you. How's that lake looking now?

Gary,

My rain guage shows 2 1/4 inches last night, but it's still raining. My 3/4 acre pond is just about full after going dry during the drought.

The lake sill has a drainage ditch to let the water out. To bad cause this storm would have really helpd to get it started.

I've been looking at valves and pipe for a permanent drain and initial overflow. From my discussionson Pondboss, I've learned that a good butterfly valve is the best choice. I've got a few prices on them along with what looks like a good one on Ebay.

Priceing shedule 40 six inch PVC is running from $3.50 to $4.50 a foot plus fittings. The funny thing is that Lowes has the best prices so far iwth one place left to check.

If things dry up enough to get the backhoe in there, I'll start on the drain line while waiting on the turbo.

Too bad the lake isn't done yet. As you know, we haven't had a rain like this in some time. Looking forward to seeing it full someday!

Sure glad to hear that it was the turbo and not the engine, thats to say $500 verses $7000 and that equals out to at least a couple RV spots. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Keep us posted, even though we're silent for the most part we're still interested and now you got us all hooked, so keep us updated on this incredable project.

I'm with you.

Even though I've been on TBN for a couple years now... I just recently realized the project that Eddie has taken on. What a talent that guy is. Since I've seen all his posts I've been very interested in his progress. I love to see the updates.

6" drain pipe? And that's the overflow? I basically no nothing about ponds but what I see around Elkhart. Usually a 12" of 16" drain, some sort of siphon set up. Never seen it work but the drain goes near the bottom, people say it'ss drain a pond in no time. As far as overflows, the more the better to keep the water off the dam. One friends pond used 4 24" pipes for overflow, water diverted down a concrete shute. This guy has built many ponds and says to much is not a bad thing, also it depend on what the water shed is capable of producing in a hard rain. This same lake has an second lake that's further up the hill, a dam separates them. He installed a valve to empty the upper lake into the lower lake if needed.

They say there is a science to it, /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif if I ever need one I'm calling him.

Your right, and I wasn't very clear on how I want it to work.

Let me try again.

With my springs and creek, I am hopfull that I'll have a steady flow of some amoung of water entering my lake. Depending on the amount of vegitation and tempatures I'll be loosing hundred, if not thousands of gallons a day from evaporation.

At some time I'll be on the positive side and need a steady overflow for minimal amounts of water. The six in line is for this. There will also be a foot of freeboard from where the main overflow is and this six inch pipe.

I'm expecting to handle 2 plus acre feet of water through the pipe. This amount of water should create a strong enough level of flow through the pipe to pull tons of silt from the bottom of the lake.

After the water level reaches my maximum level, it will flow through a concrete spillway away from my dam, then becomeing grass to the creek. This spill way will be 16 feet wide and 2 feet deep.

My skills at explaining this is hindered by my lack of experience and knowledge. I'm learning as I go, but it's comig down to crunch time and I have to make some decisions. This seems like a good solution with several options that will handle various needs that I expect to occur.

Thank you for asking and hopefully I was clearer this time.

I'm with you now, a spillway would be cool, lots of worh there with the concrete and all. No clogging there at least. I have seen a couple ponds that were washed out because the overflow was clogged. Once the water starts rushing over the dam it usually doesn't take long to wahs it away, at least in out area.

Another rainy weekend in east Texas. Ponds are looking a little better, but not much. According to my gauge about 6-8 inches in the last month or so. One weekend my 5" gauge was overflowing. Could have been from a couple weeks since I don't make it up every weekend.

Hope you get yours going soon.

Thanks to another poster over at Pondboss.com, I bought a 6 inch butterfly valve to drain the lake and handle the initial overflow. This is what $150 will get you. A gate valve this size was $800.

The collors bolt on with 8 bolts. One thing I really apreciated is the manufacture had the tightening order cast into it at each bolt hole. It also had the amont to torque the bolts to. 40 pounds.

I have a 12 inch chop saw. It took three tries to cut the 6 inch pipe with it. 4 inch pipe cuts with one try.

When it goes into the trench, the water will come in through one side and through the valve when it's open. When the valve is closed, the water will rise up to the top of a pipe that will be glued into the T fitting.

There will be another T at the top of the pipe to carry the water across to another T and then back down to the other side of the valve.

The height of the pipe will be set at the depth of the lake. When the water in the lake gets to a certain depth, then it will also rise to the same height inside the upright pipe. The crossover will be set at this height.
