I originally wanted a grey stacked stone look. After shopping around and comparing differnet styles, I made a choice on what would show up the best from the road.

This is two pallets of corners and one of fill. The white blocks in the background are for a sign I will build real soon.

The tractor comes in handy for hauling my mixer and water.

I paid $50 for a 14 inch dry diamond blade in my chop saw. It just slices through the artificial stone. It also works great on concrete pavers and bricks.

The fake rock goes on pretty easy, but a few things I've learned in the process.

Make the morter mix on the soupy side. The rock wont stick at all when your mix starts to dry and thicken up.

Only do one row at a time.

There is a pattern in the sizes of the rocks and they are designed to fit together without cutting. At least on my demensions this is true.

I used the rock to hold the fence rails in position.

I only did one column a day.

This is what the columns look like all wraped in rock. I think the contrast between the rock and the white fence is awesome!!!

You can see the wire sticking out from the top for the lights that will go on top of the caps that I will make for them.

Eddie,

Nice job on the fence and the columns! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

How long did the whole project take to complete? Will you be adding more fencing along the sides, or are you just planning on leaving it as is more as decoration?

It really looks terrific! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

This is the view looking in. It gives you an idea of the look I'm working on.

One really sad point that is really disapointing is the big pine tree is dying on me. I really like my big old trees and was looking forward to this one setting the tone at my entrance.

I was careful not to dig around it and save the roots, but I might have driven over the roots and compacted the roots to the point of killing it.

It's gonna be a big job getting rid of this one. When they get this big, I get nervous taking them down. If I screw up on it, it could be my last mistake. Hahahaha

Curious about your use of the plastic barrier fence for erosion control. Did TX require you to do that? Your county?

I see those around our construction sites, but seldom if ever on a home site. I've never seen anyone here use them when digging post holes..............

Guess I need to do some more digging to see what the requirements are around here.

THKS.

Be sure to put up a barrier fence before you start digging into the requirements! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

( The land had one entrance and I wanted a seperate entrance and exit. I contacted Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) and they told me the requirements and issued a permit.

Coming from California, I was amazed at how easy it was. )

I had a similar experience when working on my folks property in georgia some 20 years ago. We called up the county roads department and they were more than glad to tell us what they recommended. They said, in the best good old boy way possible ... We don't really care what you do, and you don't need a permit, but if you do it wrong and you flood the road, we will come a looking for you. So we did it their way and 20 years later it still works great.

Of course, if it were california, there would be EPA study, dust abatement requirements, permits to move more the dirt, permits to buy the pipe, permits to transport the pipe, permits to lay the pipe, permits to burry the pipe, fees for all the permits and fees for the 20 inspections along the way, and it would probably flood the street /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
