Thanks, we used 20 yards of 6-12" rip rap rock. The pipes are aluminum to resist corrosion, 4' diameter x 30' long.

We put the rocks over heavy duty weed cloth by hand. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

FLDave

What did you use for the base of the ford?
How high does the water level get?
That's a pretty piece of work!

We used crushed concrete as a foundation for the culvert pipes. We also used it between the pipes about halfway.

You are supposed to put the pipes at least 1/2 of the diameter apart. In this case, 4' diameter pipes should be at least 2' apart from each other. We used aluminum for corrosion resistance. There is a tomato/potato farm upstream and chemicals in fertilizer can eat up the galvanized pipes.

For erosion protection we then made the driveway out of soil and covered the banks with heavy duty weed cloth (you have to get 10' rolls of it from nursery suppliers). We then added 20 tons of 6-12" rip rap rock.

We then added what is called bank run to the driving surface. It is like a rough grade of crushed shell that will compact and harden.

We still have to top it off with washed crushed shell after our house is completed. We also have to add planks to the dock poles we are using for guard rail supports.

We have had water within a few inches of the pipe tops already. I'm sure the pipes will be completely covered during our bad summer storms.

Seeing some of these bridges and culverts, I'm almost embarrassed to show mine! But here's my chance to improve them!

The John Deere service guy called me yesterday and asked how long it had been since I'd been out to my property (He went to service my tractor on my property). I told him a couple of weeks! He said, did you have these culverts in the creek? I said yes, he said they're on the bank now! And you might want to move your tractor to higher ground!

We got some pretty good rain that crossed Texas this past week, apparently it was too much for my little culverts!

I haven't seen it yet but I'll be out there Saturday!

Hey Mitch, I drove a 4710 today. Do you think it would be good for bush hogging with a 6' cutter my 15 acres of lush pasture.

I would also need a loader to move dirt forever to improve drainage.

Thanks,

That's exactly what I use mine for. I have the LX6 and 460 FEL. I actually started my tractor shopping with a 790, it's a nice little tractor but was told by way too many people that it was too small for 30 acres!

I don't regret getting the 4710, it's done everything that I've asked from it. Just got the 50 hours service done on it this week!

Good Luck!
