Oil & Fuel Crud In Fuel

Just a note on the Mr. Funnel issue. I got a funnel about a year ago and have been very happy with it. Just recently the top portion of the filtering assembly came off. I wrote to Roger Patch, aka Mr. Funnel, asking what I could do to solve the problem. Not only did he tell me how I could fix my current funnel, but he sent a replacement too !!

Great customer service, response, and support. I highly recommend him and his company!!

( I recently bought a Mr. Funnel, after reading about them right here on TBN. Amazing, quality product, prompt mail-order service. I'm extremely happy with mine.

1*I would have never known that this technology even existed, were it not for TBN. The things one can learn here every day!

( I've been using MrFunnel for a couple of years and always buy my fuel from a busy truck stop. I've never seen crud in the funnel after fueling up, nor have I seen any crud in the fuel filter, (it gets changed every 200 hours). )

When do you strain the fuel.?
Do you just place the funnel in the tractor tank and pour the fuel through the funnel each time you fuel up the tractor?

Here is another thought take the funnel with you when you go to fill up your CAN or Cans.
Put it in the can and dispense the fuel into the funnel as you pump the fuel to fill the container.
This way the fuel gets strained twice.

Once when you buy it and again when you put it in the tractor.

The funnel is a filter and water separator in one. I filter the fuel as I am pouring it into the tractor fuel tank. That way I remove all of the water that may have condensed in the fuel storage container before it goes into the tractor.

1*That's what I plan to do.
Just wanted to be sure I was doing it rite.
Thanks !

This is interesting because I've had so much trouble with dirty fuel over the course of this summer. At first I thought it was because I filled the tractor out of the farm tank when I had it over there and it hasn't been cleaned out for at least 25 years. I had the same black junk in the tank, lines, filter bowl and filter. When I had to have a new tank installed I had all the lines replaced as well. As an afterthought I checked my diesel cans and they were full of black stuff too so it obviously came from the filling station. I replaced the cans but a couple of days ago I checked the new cans again and the black stuff was back. I'd only filled them twice. Now I've started filtering the fuel as I fill the tractor but I probably need to filter it as I fill the cans. I really need to get me a Mr. Funnel as all you guys seem to think they are great.

It does make me wonder what my trunk tank is like since I've been filling it at the same filling station for 5 years.

anyone have a LINK to the mr funel site? maybe we can negoiate a TBN member discount /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

While my first tank of fuel (stuff that came in it aws pretty much mississippi mud from china and I drained about 1~2 gallos of stuff from the tank I have since always used on-road fuel which is crystal clear. so far my fuel bowl is still the same clean & clear with almost nothing trapped in it. though my tractor tank input hole has a very fine screen which makes filling it a bit akward as if you get too much in the funnel I use it will blow air/foam out onto the hood. anyhow that fine screen DOES catch a lot of bugs/leave material mostly stuff that got into can or funnel prior to fueling.

anyhow the described funnel sounds like a wise investment even though I have yet to have any problems but with prices around here at 2.55 / gal of fuel it's time to be carefull as cheating the mix makes it pretty worth while for the fuel stations...

Their website has them in small, medium, and large but I didn't see where they had any dimensions listed. What size do you have and just what is the "size" (rim diameter, length and dia of nozzle, etc) ?

One thing to keep in mind is that if you treat your fuel with Powerservice which disperses water particles in the fuel, the Mr. Funnel will not remove it. It's best to treat the tractor fuel tank rather than the supply first.
I always fill my smaller cans from the two 55 gal. drums of off-road diesel and after filling the tractor I treat with Powerservice.
The Mr. Funnel has truly been money well spent, and I only bought the smallest one they offer. The nozzle will fit into any tractor's tank, but if you have a large tank, you may want to get the medium size or larger, although the small one sure takes the fuel pretty fast as long as the water doesn't clog it up.
