Crude Oil Purchase by the general public ???

Drip gas = Plus minus c5 pentane + water usually. Make up varies with how long it's been sitting and vapouring off.

If'n light crude is wanted check with field tanker truck fellows that work in the oil field. Fellows that empty tanks, haul crude for work over etc. Other than that your into a closed transportation system that is usually only accessible at plant type locations where an individual don't get access.

Or; couple of pipe wrenches, a nipple or two, hose and change of clothes and do an evening visit right to the well head.[/QUOTE]

And no sparks or smoking.

Or stand beside an Enbridge pipe long enough.

Just out of curiosity. Is there any particular restriction or regulations? If "Joe Average" wanted to purchase a a couple of totes of light sweet crude oil in the US or Canada ? For off road use of course. Figuring the purchaser would know enough to stay up wind of the H2S fumes.

I'm interested in "how" you would purchase this crude oil? (Assuming no regulations against it).

And then if you "could" get a tote of it, what would you do with it?

Already said. Mechanical and centrifugal filter the stuff then burn it in an old Petter Diesel engine . Or a waste oil furnace .

I didn't realize you meant you had one of those, I just thought you were generalizing about other collectors with those old oilfield engines. I've never heard of being able to buy it but then again I've never looked too far into it. It would be kinda neat to see how it worked.

i would just burn waste oil in a waste oil furnace. thats usually free as much as you can get, vs paying and spinning down somehting.

I haul crude for a living. I test it everyday. Even the best oil has BS&W in it. Basic sediment and water. Most generally it's on the bottom of the tank, but sometimes it's suspended from the top to the bottom of an oil tank. Engines running at the wellhead don't run off the crude oil, they run off the gas from the borehole. Not all leases have enough gas to run the engines, but some do. No you don't want to run the crude for fuel , but it the best trailer deck sealer I have ever seen!

In and around La Brea the oil just bubbles up through the ground... in some areas it forms tar pits.

A friend was selling his gas station and needed soil testing... the tests came back hydrocarbons everywhere!

Well... what would anyone expect with tar pits on the corner?

No... it did complicate the lending process to where the lender backed out...

It does put things into perspective... here is a thriving metro area that is totally built up with parks and museums and oil simply puddles on the ground...

Now if only the government agencies could figure out a way to tax mother nature?
