I love the cathedrals in Europe. Their beauty and history are something we definitely lack here in the states. I don't think we have anything that even comes close.

Dubrovnik Croatia was my favorite place that we went to. The size, scale and beauty of the place was just amazing.

Visited as a child and remember how much my Dad liked it... at the time, in the 60's the cost was next to nothing to stay in a 5 star resort...

Today... all of Croatia is extremely popular... you picked a good time to visit before the tourist rush starts.

Enjoy seeing your pictures!

Athens was our next stop and to be honest, we where disappointed. It was dirty with trash piled up everywhere, tons of graffiti and an overall appearance of neglect. The temples where nice, but the ground where all weeds that kind of took away from them.

Turkey was very nice. We went on a guided excursion to Ephesus. Until we started planning this trip, neither of us had ever heard of it, and the more we learned about it, the more excited about seeing it we got!!! It didn't disappoint.

We had a day at sea going from Turkey to Sicily. That was our catch up day for laundry and resting. Sicily was the one stop that we didn't know what to do, but while aboard ship, we kept hearing about Taormina. It's a beautiful town with a view of Mt Etna and a Greek Theater, so that's where we went!! Once back on ship, we took pictures of the sunset and then while going by one of many islands, noticed that there was some lava coming out of it. Not much, just a little red spurting up like a cheap fireworks cone you can get on the 4th. We where still excited to see it and while taking pictures, it erupted. It was pretty big, but I only caught a small bit of it on my camera. The sound was incredible. Then there where a few more geysers that shot up as we sailed past. Neither of us where expecting anything like that and we had to use our GPS on our phones to find out where next to Stromboli.

Great picture!!! He looks like he might be related, but the one we had was quite a bit younger. He also turned out to be a chain smoker and we had to delete a bunch of the pictures we took because we didn't want to see him smoking in them.

I was unsure about the Gondola ride before getting there, but after walking around and seeing them, I'm really glad that we changed our minds and did it. At 80 euros, it wasn't cheap, but still a great experience!!!

Rome really surprised me. We had read all sorts of warnings, and a friend had just been there during spring break and had her camera stolen, so we where a little apprehensive. We went with the cruise line for the bus ride into Rome from the port, then we walked around on our own during the day. This turned out to be just perfect. We saw everything we wanted to see and discovered lots of other things we didn't know about. Just walking the streets was amazing!!! I'm not a city kind of guy and avoid them as much as possible, but I have to admit to really enjoying Rome.
