Florence was really nice. Loved the Duomo and just wondering around the streets, seeing what was there. It's a small city compared to Rome. Pisa was an hour or so away from Florence and kind of shocking in how small it was. If it wasn't for the leaning tower, there wouldn't be any reason to go there. After an hour, we had seen everything there at least twice!!!

That was our last stop in Italy. Next we went to Marseille France. There wasn't anything very interesting there, so we took a tour to Les Baux-de-Provence France. This was an old castle and town at the top of a small mountain that had people living there for over 1,000 years. The age of the castle seems to start from around the 1300's or so.

We want to do one big trip and one small trip a year. That was our big trip for the year, so our next trip will be to Colorado in September to photograph the elk during the rut in Estes Park. Next year we are thinking about going to Africa, but haven't committed to anything.

Our last stop was in Barcelona. We booked our flight, round trip from Dallas to there, which gave us a very good price, but then we had to do all the one way travel to the start of the cruise in Venice. This worked out very well and something we both would highly recommend.

Neither of us where very excited about Barcelona when looking into all the places we would be going to, so we didn't really plan anything. Once there, we just picked up a map from the hotel and went walking around, sort of heading to the churches that seems important on the map. While nothing compared to Italy, we where very impressed with how nice everything was there. The city was clean, the architecture was unique and very interesting. La Rambla was a street that everyone walks down full of venders and places to eat that we discovered and enjoyed tremendously. Barcelona might have been the biggest unexpected surprise of the trip. The food was incredible. We had steaks both nights there, but at different places. The first was highly recommended by the hotel, the other was just a place we walked into on our way back to the hotel. VERY GOOD FOOD!!!!

eddie,
I'm really impressed with the places you visited on this trip. It really looks like a great mix of places with some spectacular sites. I've heard Barcelona (or spain in general) is very beautiful.

Shellie and I are getting ready for our Africa trip in September. Planning a 12 mile hike this Saturday as part of our training. Shellie's been taking some on-line photography classes offered by UNT in preparation and I have a side trip for her to visit KNP for a night or two. It'll be here before we know it.
