Crushed stone with little to know chips and dust, rant

The county was dredging the road ditch in front of my place, around the culverts and intakes. Three trucks were hauling the spoils to their stockpile several miles away. I told the drivers if they got behind, they could dump a few loads in my empty lot. That is something they don't do because of insurance problems. But they dumped 3 loads anyway.

So many of the locals who drove by that day, called the county to complain about favoritism. They made a new rule, never drive on private property again.
County commissioners have gone to jail over a load of dirt around here.

I could only envision that working in Mr. Rodgers Neighbourhood.

Haha. Some places are just not like the rest. They are similar to what the whole country was 50 years ago.

What is getting more popular in my area is to use re cycled asphalt, usually what the shredder has chipped away (before they re surface).
It is in fact, cheaper than crushed stone, that for the material but transport remains same as crushed stone..
The big advantage is the hot sun 'glues' it somewhat back together so heavy rains don't wash it out.
Over time it re-bonds to a nice driveway surface.

It works so well that our city uses it on all the gravel road hills with the result that there is no more washboard effect.

I used re-cycled over 20 years ago on my steep drive and have yet to regret it.
B4 I had to grade after every heavy rain and that is now history.

The City has the resourses to repair or rework it. If you have a good solid base, proper drainage, and then it's properly installed, compacted and rolled smooth like ashphalt, I'm sure it's great.

Our guys used to do stuff like that. They'd even pave private roads and driveways. But then it came out that they didn't/wouldn't do it for just anybody. You had to know somebody. Or you had to do something in return. Back-slapping, hand washing, palm greasing, vote promising and other similar options. Eventually, the good old boys involved got voted out of office for doing it. Now, it doesn't happen any more. You can still get the road in front of your house paved, ditch dug, or a few other things on the public right of way, even if it doesn't really need it. But nothing on private property.

My Dad worked for a big steel wire company. Always got the maintenance dept to do stuff and build stuff for him. Then some guy or guys got caught building a mobile pressure washing rig, to run a side business, all on the companies dime. Then, all the Government Jobs got canned. Someone like my Dad who only stole a little was pissed that someone had the audacity to steal so much and ruin it for everyone. Too funny! Company used to fill up MY car too!

I had a boss that spent most of his work time running his side business. His bosses were clients. He got promoted....
