My CT 230 got a wash job last week and I found scaling and corrsion aroudn the front bottom of the hood. I opened it up and the battery had leaked all over. Mind you I have not had my tractor upside down ...

While I'm very hppy witht he tractor I have this battery leaking and a big mess in the front and the lazy hydro pedal to be corrected. I just hit 50 hours so maybe I'll have them do the service and a little warrenty work.

My battery did the same thing when I first had mine. It seems like a couple others had the same issue also. You could probably find the threads if you wanted to read them by searching.

I just cleaned mine up real good and repainted it. I have not had the problem since.

50 hours? I'd want a new battery and battery tray.

What brand battery was it? The batteries are installed at the dealers; its shipped from the factory in a crate without any batteries.

Just FYI. Th ebattery in my CT235 went out at about 15 hours. It didn't leak or anything ... it just went dead.

The dealer replaced the battery.

I am at 48 hours now and the battery is going good.

My battery tray is rusting from the inside out. Seems to me that the metal used contains rust and it is blowing through the paint. I called the dealer and they said to take a pic and they would see if Bobcat will cover it.

I have not checked battery for leaks, but I will.

Bobcat tractors come assembled to the dealers from Bobcat.
They also have a Bobcat branded battery in them.

Is this an older 230 or newer? Does it have many hours on it, just trying to glean a little more info from your post.

:edit: My bad, I re read your post and saw the 50 hours, it is h*ll getting old and cant read these fonts

I just did the 50 hour maintenance too. Same issue as you noted above... The battery acid appears to have leaked out causing corrosion around the battery tray. Pulled the caps off of the battery and checked the electrolyte level. It appears to be normal. I'm not even going to bother with the local mega-dealer. They are pretty much worthless. I'd rather do the work and pay for the new battery out of pocket than deal with them. Looks like some wire brush work, painting and a new optima yellow top battery is in my future.

I'm in the same boat. I have the 225. My battery just died at 11months 2 weeks. The top had a light mist of acid on it. The dealer replaced it and kinda blew me off about the battery tray. mine is very corroded and I'm a little worried about the oil cooler. Its covered in a greasy kind of crud. It didn't smell like battery acid. I had to mow so I just put the new batt back in. I will be taking it back out to clean the cooler and battery pan this weekend. I seem to recall a product that you could paint on rust that would stop the oxidation and seal it. Anyone know what its called and is it any good? It looks to be a major pain to remove the pan.

POR-15 is one such product.

Question Is the corrosion you are experiencing from cracked battery cases leaking battery acid or from the battery vent not doing a good job separating the acid from the venting gas during the normal charge cycle. Some of the batteries I have used in cars/trucks were not very good at separating the battery acid from the battery vents and left a "wetted" surface on the battery and the nearyby components including battery tray. Overtime this led to corrosion on metal surfaces. The batteries that were maintenance free (no removable caps to add water) were the best at not allowing a wetted vent products. I suspect the vents had to be designed well or the battery would not last long due to loss of electrolyte.

Has anyone replaced there wet acid battery with a true maintance free battery (no way to add water). One other thought is to use an Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) or Gel battery that are sealed and do not vent battery acids. These type of batteries are used in motorcycles and Personal Water Crafts which can experience much vibration and impacts. Many can even be placed on their side during operation.

I am wondering if I should replace my conventional wet acid battery in my new tractor to keep the battery tray, lower hood and oil cooler from battery acid corrosion?

Any thought or experience with true maintenance free batteries or ASM/Gel beatteries not leading to corrosion?

I have had a AGM battery in my kubota l2250 for the last 4 years I love it My tractor does not get started much during the winter and the AGM batterys hold a charge better during inactive periods Randy

Hello.

Bobcat had a problem with batteries a while back.
We had a skid steer Bobcat with very much the same issues.
With a little work I was able to install a marine battery box and battery.
We went with a larger Bobcat shortly thereafter, the A300.
This machine has proven flawless so far.

after reading this post on possable battery issues this was one of the things I had on my check out list when I went back to look /inspect my tractor again sitting at the dealers lot but beings I could't get the hood latch to work could't check it out hope its not a plague with these. did get a tip on opening hood thanks to lilranch 2001 but didnt think I was going to check fluids in a 73 nova so next trip to dealer I will do the old push on the hood to unlatch it trick
