Ohioguy, I don't have that pulley on my deck. It looks like its just an idler pulley, no spring tensioner? How does it adjust?

/ Cub 5000 MMM eating belts #24
Bill,
It's fixed, no adjustment. The reason I wondered about its' purpose was with the deck engaged it barely turns, if at all. I'm sure that because it's just intended to limit travel. I'll get the part # from the manual if it's listed, although it may be a warranty repair/upgrade for you?
Let me know if I can help.

I went out and fired up the tractor, it does turn, I just assumed it didn't because it doesn't lok like there is enough contact to spin it.

Neither of my manuals show that pulley? Maybe the dealer added it? Nah, that would be way to proactive for them.

I'm curious now /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I emailed Cub Cadet's tech support and included the picture of the pulley. I asked why it wasn't in the manual or present on a friends deck who was having belt problems.

This was the reply;

Thank you for contacting Cub Cadet.

The pulley you have pictured seems to be a standard drive pulley, that should be on the tractor. You might have your friend speak with their dealer if this pulley is not present.

Thank you as well for choosing Cub Cadet!

I have no idea! I asked more questions.....

The manuals are probably the original manuals and don't show the addition of the new pulley but there is a part number for it. Mine should be here tomorrow and I will post a picture and part #. I really question whether that pulley in itself will solve the problem but we will see.

That is one of the pulleys that we usually add onto the deck to stop the belt from falling off. As far as the previous posts about aftermarket belts, I would recommend the original belt. I recommend this because most complanies when they make belts for their machines, they make sure the belts have the same angle V groove in them as the pulleys that they use on their equipment. Most aftermarket belts don't have the same V style groove as the original belt, therefor they heat up much quicker and eventually break much quicker. The companies aren't stupid, they all make their equipment and parts so you almost have to buy original parts to make things work properly.

OhioGuy...thanks for posting pictures of the pulley. I just returned from vacation last night and I had not seen TBN for quite a while. I missed some good information while I was away. I have 1 month of warranty left on my mowing deck. What is the part number for the pulley kit? I can let my dealer know and maybe he will get it for me under warranty. I am not having a problem yet but I only have 78 hours on my tractor.

Any luck with your mower yet billp?

I didn't have any luck getting a part number direct from Cub in two attempts. It sounds like Bill got his ordered. I'd hope, if you printed the picture and took it with you, they could identify it from there.

Good luck!

I asked my dealer to ship the kit to me so I wouldn't have to haul my tractor in. Still haven't received it though. Its supposed to be coming from Cub.

Heres another problem I found, the muffler is apparently defective. I noticed a changed in sound and when I looked closely I saw that the welds at the points where the header enters the muffler is cracked. Mufflers are about $90 so that one will be fixed under warranty.

thanks for the update bill...i will keep on eye on the muffler welds.

I realize that this is a VERY old thread, but I just got a 2005 5252E with 60" MMM and want to be proactive in trying to ward off potential problems.

Has anyone ever come up with the part number for this kit?

Can anyone post a link to a parts diagram that shows it?

My deck has a long bolt in the approximate location that the "extra pulley" is in posts 21/22. The bolt appears to be there to limit belt movement.

There is not much belt clearance near the center of the deck so it appears that the position of the pulley would be critical.

Does the pulley mount with a bolt through that same hole in the deck?

What is the diameter of the "extra pulley"?

Are all the original pulleys stock size, and in their original location?

Thanks, Joel
