if lowes is ending its partnership with Cub, i sure cant tell it. we have been getting more mowers from Cub at their Martin TN facility (for lowes) than we have ever gotten in the last 2 weeks. 3-5 trailer loads a day. and none of these are for DCs.

Well what ever the case is with lowes I still think that they have ruined the Cub Cadet name and I do beleive that they will also do the same for John Deere.
And if that doen't tell you something about John Deere. You can not read between the lines.
All John Deere wants is the big sales numbers and they are willing to go to any level to get the numbers.
Putting tractors in lowes and home depot it just doesn't make much sense, what ever happen to a protected territory.

Of course we all understand the fact that Cubs name is somewhat hurt by "real tractor men"...but most people didn't even know what a Cub Cadet was before they went into Lowes and now everybody knows what it is. Yes there are going to be those customers that will never buy a Cub Cadet again because the one they got at Lowes was a piece of cr*p.

Theres always two sides of a coin though. On that side you see that it hurts the overall Cub Cadet name, but on the other side you see what all Cub has been able to do with its brand with the money generated by Lowes. Their Cub Commercial program has really taken off, they are finally producing their own compact tractors, they have utility vehicles now and are about to introduce their 4wd UTV...all these good products and more brand recognition to boot, now that doesn't sound so bad does it?

There are pros and cons both ways and this situation is certainly no different.

Gamble, didn't your company drop the Cub built compact tractors? If so, why? The only compacts Cub is producing are the 5000 series (which they have been building for 2 years now) and the 6000 series (also building for 2 years now, it was called the 7284 in 2004, now it's the 6284). The 7000 series are rebadged Mitsubishi's and the 8000 series are rebadged Kioti's.

Hard, when you take into consideration that the Cub 5000 and mainly 6000 series we funded by the whole Lowes thing then you have to see the benefit in that. Before the 5000 & 6000 Cub had never made a tractor...and the whole Cub tractor program is just getting started, more benefits will be seen in 2007...

And as to why I don't carry the compact Cubs is a choice I have made based mainly on their capacities and price. I like the Cub compacts but I never said they were the best on the market for the money. Plus I don't like to have three different lines in one class, gets crowded real fast...

I have my reasons, but that does not take away from Cub being able to put money into their compact program with so much more to come...which they can afford mainly with their money from the big box stores.

Thats all I am allowed to say at the moment. Merry Chirstmas!!

Merry Christmas Gamble and the rest. Always great to hear your side Gamble, always interesting.

We'll see how 2006 is to the Cubs. With all the hub bub on the 2000 series change we'll see how they fare. As much as I like Cub Cadet, I only like which is unique to the market. As I have posted previously, too many MTD parts that show up on every other tractor they make turns me off. That is why those older '90's Troy-Bilt GTX tractors look more and more impressive to me. A bit boxy, but, unmistakeable as to what they are. It would really suck if you couldn't tell a 1500 series from a 2000. Merry Christmas.!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Cant help to think that by Lowes dropping Cub, it helped put my local dealer out of business. I have other dealers to choose from but its never a good sign when you loose the one you preferred.

No doubt about it. There is nothing good in loosing a chunk of your sales base (& profits). CC will have to make it up elsewhere now. There are lots of CC dealers out there more than happy to fix a 1000 series machine or two.
