Thanks guys but I have a question so I replaced the fuel filter and it ran for like 45 minutes still surged for about 5 minutes and the next time I mowed it died the same 20 minutes again then I mowed again and it was fine. And all of the fuel lines a4e good and even has a new gas cap. It will do this really weird pattern of running fine for 1-2 mows then dies in 20 minutes again. I had a white outdoor yard buy that did the same thing and I replaced the carb and it never happened again and is still being used to cut grass. And my old Husqvarna lgt 2654 had the same issue but some times after you shut it off it wouldn’t start again and sometimes wouldn’t run on starting fluid. Rebuilt the carb and it was fine and is still mowing grass. I checked the coils and they had very good spark and got shocked by the tester checking each coil.the mower did sit for about 3 years due to a bad cylinder head and I fixed it but never re did the carb. The carb I don’t think has ever been rebuilt.

Also I should add I can start it again as soon as it dies if I crank it forever and sometimes have to Give it choke but it will run really bad

I haven't had a problem with my Cub but I have to constantly use GumOut All-in-one Ethanol fuel system cleaner in my push mower and edger to keep them running after using ethanol gas. It worked wonders in my Toro push mower which doesn't have a choke or any carb adjustments. I installed a new carb on my Craftsman edger with B & S engine and 1 year later it wouldn't run. I took the carb bowl off and no gas came out. The float needle valve was so caked up with crud from the ethanol it wouldn't open and allow gas into the bowl. I had to scrape the needle valve with a knife to clean it. Since using the GumOut I've had no problems. I but it at Walmarts.

Update for y’all. Just rebuilt the carburetor and she started up with in half a second. Hasn’t started that fast in 10 years also ran at idle and didn’t want to die. It also didn’t backfire when I shut it off at low idle for the first time in probably since the tractor was new! Has strong spark. Good compression and fresh amsoil in it. And the tranny oil is clean as a whistle.

My money is on the clean as a whistle tranny oil. ;-)

I did find some gum in it but not an over amount. I found ethanol corrosion on the carb body it self. All of the o rings were shot they weren’t even rubber more like plastic.and I found the intake manifold gasket wasn’t sealing good and I wonder if that caused it to die after it was heated up because of too much air. But the most interesting was the needle and seat. The needle needed to be replaced and in the seat and on the needle I found a a bunch of little either plastic strands or dried slime-ish lookin things and I think that the needle hasn’t been seating right and after running and getting moved around and blasted with gas it went ahead and plugged the needle valve.

Just cut my grass with the gt 2544 for the first time in 2 months and it didn’t die while I mowed the entire lawn. It ran like a dream
