Cub Cadet GT2544 belt issue

I have the mower for 8 years and replaced very few drive belts (mainly deck belts), but recently I have replaced drive belts twice. When I engage the PTO, there is an initial slight pause, then a squealing noise before it begins the blades turning. Even after a short period, I have checked the belts to make certain they are engaged properly. The deck belts feel fine to the touch, but the drive belt (and front drive belt pulley) are very warm. I never had previously to feel the belts, so am not sure if this is normal or not. Just wondering if anyone might have any guidance to give. Thank you.

I assume that you are speaking of the primary deck belt that runs from the PTO back? You will want to verify that bearings throughout the deck are in good shape and that the tensioner is working freely. Belts run with a variable degree of heat depending on the set up and belt load. We like cooler better than hot though!

It sounds right, as it is the PTO pulley up front of the engine around which the belt is run to the pulley above the deck. I will check the bearings again and grease them up. I believe the tensioner is functioning well, but will check that also. I didn't see anything unusual, but need to check again. It just came up so quickly, it surprised me. Appreciate it.
