Hello,
I bought a used Cub RZT 50 a couple of years ago. It will not start with the key. It will start if you jump the positive battery terminal directly to the starter or by jumping the solenoid posts. I have already replaced the parking brake safety switch, and have checked the PTO switch, one of the neutral switches, and the ignition switch with a multimeter, all are working as expected. It should be noted that my seat switch seems to maybe have been disabled. There is only one wire going to one of the two posts, but best I can tell that shouldn't keep it from starting and it actually has started with the key without that, but only once. The PTO light lights up when I turn the key, but like I said, I tested the PTO switch and it's fine. Those lights don't make any sense, the parking brake light comes on if the arms are not in the neutral position, so it's hard to say what causes those lights to light up.
My fuse is good. I have power at the solenoid. The body grounds connected to the solenoid seem to be good. I do not have power at the small pink wire on the solenoid... which I believe indicates a safety interlock issue. But, as I said, I've checked all but the one neutral safety switch (I know, I need to check it... but what a pain).
The only time it ever started with the key was after I replaced the solenoid. My theory is that either something is shorting, or something is not connecting, and my taking the solenoid loose jarred something which has since gone back to being shorted/not properly connected, but what?
What else do I need to check? I appreciate any help.
