A bunch of shiney new Cubs in my local HD store yesterday and one lone JD leftover marked down to $1799 from $2399 to get rid of it. They also had Toro lawn tractors...MTD bought the Toro brand too, right??

Don't know who sets the Cubs up for the store. I hope it's not the HD employees....

The largest Cub on display was a LT1550.

The local Lowes store has JDs parked in back not set up yet. The local JD dealer does all the tractor setup's. Lowes employees are forbidden to touch them until the tractor is setup by the JD dealer.

Just wondering, but why not setup the tractors at the factory? Guaranteed quality assurance. Can't be the cost because the mfg is paying the local dealer to do the setup that could be done at the factory. I could understand if there were some special options. But most LT's and such are only used with a cutting deck.

Alan, I always wondered about that too. From the looks of the racks of JD 100's sitting in the parking lots @ home depo's, my thinking is it has to do with shipping costs. They can pack and ship more per pallet or shipping container partially disassembled, decks off, etc.. I bet in the not so distant future, the price-point LT's will come fully assembled. Profit margins on them have to be paper thin as is. Paying anyone to do final assy takes even more away. Arriving ready to go can only help the profit margin AND guarantee a 100% factory correct unit!

It is not possible to perform the setup at the factory. The units are assembled and tested with a dyno. The pto and mower deck are also tested. Then the units are driven onto a pallet and crated for shipping.

Adding a setup station would be wasting money and time.

The units experience shock and jarring in shipment. The units are picked up by forklift or sidelifts. All this would cause the adjustments to be knocked out.

It's a better idea to have the Cub Dealers perform the setup.

You Cub Dealers know what you are doing and you do it well!

CubTech,

Thanks for the info. It is always best to hear it form the source. Please keep the comments comming. Also some speculation about the new seats with the arm rests fitting other models. Any input on this?

Thanks, Alan

No doubt about it, but what about units destined for big-box where a CC dealer is not available? If CC could make it profitable shipping them whole, they would.

It was Troy-Bilt, not Toro, that MTD bought out a few years ago.

You didn't hear it from me... So keep it on the DL.

But TORO is now being manufactured along side the Cub's and Troy's and everything else.

I am not for sure if Toro is owned by MTD now..but the same people who build the Cub's build the new Toro's.

Will have to wait and see.

I will have to get back to you on the Seats and Armrests. I believe there will be more options.

Cub also will be opening a Customer Care line so the Tech line will be freed up for the Dealers.
