German engine manufacturer MAN builds diesel engines for the larger AGCO/Fendt tractors.
They can make peak torque at a mere 1100 RPM. That’s really impressive and saves a lot of fuel.

Just like the Scania V8 engines, holding peak torque from 1000 RPM up to 1400 RPM. Nearly 2800 ft lbs on the 770HP V8.

Their newer inline 6, starts making peak torque right at 900 RPM.

I will admit, the high output 6.7L Ford leads the pack right now.
Really impressive.

I think the Cummins could put more, but Ram seems content to lead from behind in power output.

Still like my in-lines better.

Years ago, when Dodge began using the B5.9, The Cummins factory in Columbus IN put that engine in their maintenance fleet of Ford F250's. I don't recall them ever selling those Ford pickups, but I did hear a rumor they junked them when the body/chassis wore-out.
The only negative issue with the B5.9 was the "killer dowel pin" in some years.

Yeah that was in the 24 valve 5.9 Cummins before they went to the common rail engines. I had one of those and never had the killer dowel issue.i also never experienced the lift pump issue, but those were known problems. I do prefer my newer common rail 5.9.

You should see the issues Ford has with CP-4 pumps and prior issues with previous 6/6.4L engines.
I damn near cried trying to keep my 6.4’s running. 6L’s were a disaster unless modified.
Cummins is more reliable, but not as fast as the V-8’s.

6 cylinder low end power from a reliable, warranty-backed Cummins is better for long life and heavy towing, in MHO. Look at the warranties offered and see who you think stands behind their truck engines more.

I am not pro Ford or pro Dodge mainly because I own both. I drive the Dodge simply because it has a lot less miles on it, but in reality the Ford has a better performance feel about it as far as normal driving. The Dodge just isn't as smooth when you try to get to the next traffic light ahead of the guy next to you.
I can't compare towing capabilities yet because I haven't pulled anything behind the Dodge.
BTW, the ones I own are a 2000 7.3 Ford and a 2003 5.9 Dodge. The Dodge has never been driven over 65 mph in it's lifetime. Can't say that about the Ford...

Best I recall, there were a lot of the dowel repair kits sold (preventative measure), but I only read a handful of 1st person accounts of having that specific failure on the Dodge CTD forums. When it did happen some the results were quite destructive. Normally the dowel pin just missed the timing gears and fell into the oil pan.
