Curtis Cab 2X20

We had a significant increase in volume in our BX2660, perhaps 2x, but I dont think it was 5x.
I think that sealing the transmission area from the cab (including around the levers) and putting something on the roof would work wonders.

yeah, sorry 5X may have been a bit of an exaggeration. but she is loud, especially with the mower engaged.

Sounds like I can live with that let alone make some soundproof improvements as I go.

Will pull the trigger tomorrow.

I have been shopping this arena too. Have been on and off a 2920 at my local dealer so much I think he wants to charge me rent.
Wish he had one with a Curtis cab so I could see how my fat *** would fit in it, but the work platform in this model seems real
generous for a small tractor. I had to move the seat forward a scooch to be comfortable.

Was pricing one up today with the deluxe overhead console but would it be to loud in there to listen to the radio anyway? I will be pushing with a front blade.

I was looking at the next frame size up 7800,2910 etc. but am not sure that it has as much room as the 2*20 series.?

Skeetman,

For me, the noise inside the cab on my BX24 is too loud to not wear hearing protection. However, I have to offer a few caveats. My cab is the hard side model so I suspect the amount of resonance is higher than that of the soft side model. My hearing is still very good (never went to rock concerts) so I am perhaps more sensitive to noise than others. If I had a radio playing I would still be able to hear it in the cab but do not expect it to be like listening to the radio in the car.

That being said, you are not without options. As others have suggested, additional soundproofing should help. When I work in the cab I wear the 3M Work Tunes hearing protectors (Northern Tool #1746366 ). It has a built in radio and a jack to connect it to my MP3 player. I can't hear any outside noise when I use these. I could not tell from the picture online but you might want to see if the Curtis Deluxe Console has an output jack that you could connect to the Work Tunes.

Regardless, I would not let the cab noise stop me from buying a cab. The reward of not being blasted by wind and blowing snow is just too great to not put a cab on the tractor. Plus, with the cab you don't have to worry about brushing snow off the seat to avoid a wet butt.

minnebota does your BX24 fit into a garage with the cab on?? I know its lower than the roll bar. I would like a cab but was worried about fitting it into my garage. Do you have a height measurment??

Thanks
Jim

Skeetman,

I sat in a B2X20 which was having a Curtis cab installed (see pic from my 1st post here) my impression is that there is a LOT of room (yes the heater does project out some) but overall when you are in the seat I find the entire cabin very roomy.

As for the overhead console and radio since I do not own one of these yet I have read that the Radio does get washed out with the noise from the tractor and the cost of the overhead console is not the best return on the investment.

I too sat on the 7800 / 2910 and 3030 series - much larger TRACTOR platform and the seat is lower between the rear tires (where as the 2X20 you sit much higher) BUT i found the floorboard of the 2X20 is as big if not bigger than the lager frames.

Yes, my BX24 fits in the shed with the cab on. I have an 8 foot door on the shed with an opening height of 94 1/2 after trim. The BX24 ROPS height is about 85 1/2 as best as I can measure it (with turf tires). The top of the cab is at about 78 1/2 with the roof in the locked position. In case you have not seen it, the BX24/25 cab has a hinged roof that allows the top to lift up in the rear. This gives more headroom when using the backhoe. In the lifted position the rear of the roof is about even with the top of the ROPS. (all dimensions in inches)

I'm going to try to anticipate the next question. Can a BX24 with a cab go through a 7 foot garage door if the ROPS is folded? With trim, the 7 foot door probably has about an 82 1/2 inch height. At 78 1/2 inches the cab should go through with the ROPS folded. Yes, I do think the ROPS can be folded with the cab on. The upper two brackets that brace the cab to the ROPS are U shaped that fit around the ROPS with a rubber padding that provides a friction fit. There does not appear to be anything that would prevent the upper section of the ROPS from being pulled out of these brackets as it is being folded down.

All of this is based on my installation. I would encourage anyone considering this to verify with their dealer or the manufacturer that this is still and will be the case if they purchase a cab. How's that for a disclaimer?
