No we used ammo cans because they are weather Tite.

Yeah, but if you leave it open or put snow covered items (chains, for example), you'll end up with water in the bottom.

I'd be interested in buying some from you, but I'm not sure if it would be cheaper to drive to your place to pick them up, or ship them.

We're located near Batavia in the lake plain.

What are they getting for the lot size you mentioned- it might be worth it for me to buy one myself.....

Check out this link, it has everything listed for auction at Ft. Drum currently. Looks like the ammo cans don't come up until 10/24. I may throw a low ball bid on some just to see what happens. You never know!

I also saw them for sale a couple months ago in a catalog like surplus center or something for $10 a shot. might beat messing with a whole bunch of them.

I retired from my "real" job this summer and I'm about to close down my seasonal business for the winter. If I won one of these lots, maybe it'd give me something to do on Craigslist and make a few dollars this winter. :greedy:

I guess I could have done some drains but I was kind of banging it together with limited time. I know I have a ammo box mounted on the side of my tractor (see attached Pic) for chains and pins and that does hold moisture in when I put wet chain in it. However I park the tractor inside and just leave the lid open when I leave it overnight so it can dry out.

sound like a good Idea. I have bought a few things of gov liquidation including a completely re-manufacturer M-102 3/4 ton trailer for like $325. As for the ammo boxes, just make sure you know what sizes you are getting when you bid. some are really small and some are really large.

Looks like some of the pics are tape measure shots. I'll have to take a closer look to get dimensions. I've seen a few of the trailers in this area. Some being hauled down the road and others out in yards for sale.

No idea what these things have brought for prices in the past. I joined the GL site awhile back myself, just haven't seen anything that I couldn't live without to bid on yet. If I bid on any of these ammo can lots, it'll be my first bid there.
