custom built hydraulic cylinder?

Any ideas or links to finding a company that builds cylinders to your own needs?

Not looking for anything crazy just looking to have a cylinder built with the inlet/outlet ports where I need them instead of the stock location.

Try Bailey at Baileynet.com . They build custom cylinders and also manufacture their own Chief brand.

If you need both fittings on one end, there are many off the shelf loader cyls with that design. They supply through cylinder rod. Might could save you a bundle off a custom build if found with right bore, stroke etc..

I kinda need the thumb now so I am going to have a shield built for now and try to find or order a custom cylinder.

What I need is not so much on one end (however that may work also) but to have the ports on the side instead of on the bottom as shown in this picture. There just to prone to a problem.

What kind of end does the cylinder have. Why not have it cut off and rotated 90 degrees? Should be able to find a shop that will do that kind of work in a day.

Without getting a close look at the cylinder ends, I would guess the fixed end could be cut off and rewelded. Any good hydraulic shop or even a welding shop could do it.

Yep that does look problematic. Is that a JIC to pipe adapter on cyl? Looks like you might could go with pipe to tube L and turn cyl 180deg. I can't tell if mount would allow that from pic though. It would offer great protection if it would work.
On my big hoe the tubing is maybe inch and a quarter high on cyl and that's 5/8 tube. The port, and or adapter on your cyl seems exceedingly long (almost width of cyl) before it turns 90deg . I note the boom and dipper look more normal. Good luck with it.

I would remove the piston. Cut off the cross tube and weld it at 90 degrees. Did a similar modification to one of my 3PH tilt cylinders today. About an hours work. A little longer for paint to dry.
You may not want to rotate a full 90 degrees. It looks like the top port would be very close to the mounting bracket.
