Custom cart for oxygen & acetylene tanks.

Just a reminder to anyone thinking of fabricating their own cart...the ones with the tanks inline have the wheels close together and tend to be tippy outdoors. Putting the bottles side by side moves the wheels farther apart and makes the cart much more stabile. After all, who needs to have their cart fall over on it's side, knock the O2 valve off and turn the whole thing into a rocket powered sled!?

I bought a lot of 10 at a construction auction. They had 21" steel wheels which made for easy pulling/pushing across ground. Paid $350 for the lot Painted them all Green with black wheels and greased the axle hubs. Kept the best for myself and sold the others for $50 each. These carts sold in welder supplies for over $250 so it didn't take long to sell them, actually I think I could have gotten more if I had asked. I ended up with a free cart a little extra cash and a weekend project to keep me out of trouble. Point is Check out Construction Auctions, sometimes you can get real good deals.

I am always amazed at you guys that take the time to "finish" the job and put a great looking paint job on your projects. I mean that. It seems that everytime I fabricate something it's needed right then and during the "field testing" segment it usually never makes it back in the shop for the "finishing touches".

Mine is made from a hand truck, it's got a toolbox, and it's way to ugly to post pictures of.

i've passed up a many nice carts at the flea market and car show swap meets......

prices vary from about 30-100.....depending....

might check there...

I haven't taken the time to read all the posts on this topic but I thought it was the law in all states that the first project to build soon after purchasing OA was a CART to haul them around on!! I built one but used solid rubber tire so if i get splater on the tire I don't get a flat. mine is built in such a way that when you stand it up the tires are off the florso it can't tip over, don't forget a posibles tray ( you know a tray for every posible thing you will need when cutting or welding)

Our two torch sets came on carts so no need to make our own. But if I was going to build my own cart it would need to have large +20" wheels with solid tires for ease of movement outside. I may also look at having the wheels splayed outward like a wheel chair for stability.

The cart would also need to have hooks on the backside to wind the hose on, and a small toolbox with cover to keep the sparker, torch tips, and tip cleaner in. If I was doing much field welding I would also look into building a rod holder on the side.

I bought the one from Harbor Freight a couple of years ago. I paid around $40on sale. They regularly sell for $50.
It's not real heavy duty and the tires are just bicycle tires but it's well worth the price, and it's good enough for me since I don't use it every day.
It's held up pretty well so far and the large wheels make it handy for going on uneven ground.
But one thing I don't like about it is the cheap pneumatic bicycle type tires. It seems that every time I go to use it, I have to air up a tire that has a slow leak.
