ayhow I know I said craftsman as the mower but that was more for an example. I have had them and did not have a lot of luck with them. If I got a mower it would most likely be orange or green mower

Funny thing was she found this ring she wanted last night and had to show it to me. I did not buy it but on the way out of the mall I put 25 cents in the gum michine and got one for her out of it. Told her they seem the same to me.....I think I made my point.

Seriously, this pretty much says how I feel about it. I would add to this list of "must come first" spending priorities, funding your retirement (401K, etc.). If you feel confident your jobs are pretty secure for the next few years and if the Kubota is what you want most, go far it. Oh, then make sure the next big investment you make is your wife’s top priority. I have a feeling she will see to that. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

No where else on the web can you get tractor buying/operating advice and advice for life, psychology, philosophy---all right here on TBN.

OK, my advice is to be nice to your wife and get her the ring she wanted and enjoy the camper you probably secretly wanted too and if you can afford it without to much hassle then get the DANG tractor. In a few years we will all be gone, and none of this will matter. Get the tractor, use it and enjoy it. There is no your turn and her turn, it is a partnership and you need to convince her that reasonably you need this tractor and though expensive in the long run it will not be wasted and the long term costs are equivilent to buying several machine of lesser capability. If you are not "yard" people, working in the yard, making beds, tilling gardens hauling stuff around for little weekend projects then maybe you do not need a tractor. J

I don't even own a Craftsmen or any other LT or GT, so I have no axe to grind here, but I would imagine by volume alone, Sears outsells most if not all other LT or GT manufacturers, and for what they are they must hold up enough or they would not be in business.

See many Yugo's, Studebakers or Ramblers on the market or Allstate cars for that matter? They were cheap but didn't offer enough for the price. Sears must be offering enough or they would eventually get out of the business; just like they did trying to sell rebadged Henry J's as Allstates in the early 1950's and flopped.

Several of my neighbors have Craftsmen tractors and have had no problems. They use them within their design limits and they do fine, especially for price. They are happy with what they got for the price.

Some people swear by Craftsmen, others Swear at them.

Anyhow, an interesting disucssion, and I apologize for getting off the original intent of the thread.

Comparing LTs and GTs to SCUTs and CUTs is the INTENT of the thread and I will stick with what I said. A Sears or similar lawnmower is not a tractor and would be a very poor substitue at best for a BX or similar SCUT (subcompact utility tractor) regardless of how many are sold and to whomever. J
