Cutting an access road on a slope

Here's a picture showing use of the rock debris to build a dry stack rock/soil wall to help keep the next area of filled dirt in place.

I was fairly lucky that the cut area on the hillside produced a lot of rocks that were fairly flat which made stacking easier. I was also lucky to have a number of long rocks that could be stacked from the wall back into the fill so that soil compression of the fill helps to keep the drystack wall in place.

Now I just need to move the shed out of the way to complete the transition to the existing driveway.

The road is nearly completed.

Shed at the end of the driveway removed and remaining work beginning.

Now, I just need a good rain to help consolidate the soil and so that I can further modify the angle back towards the hillside and drainage pipes. Probably won't happen until October or November given its Southern California, although we do get the occasional summer monsoonal storm that over flows from the Gulf of Baja.

Looking good!

Moisture and compaction makes makes a world of difference in my trailblazing too.
