I tend to think Terramite used polished rod for a reason. I just don't know what else is in their rod in terms of alloy, material strength or hardening.

Whatever you decide to do, make two of them while you're at it. If the first replacement eventually breaks, you can use the second replacement while you figure out what to try next.

I prolly would have found a piece of cylinder rod and cut it in the saw and welder onner.

I asked my local hyd shop if they had any 1" cylinder rod. They said no.

Even my local scrapyard said "all the good stuff is gone."

edit: my local machine job doesn't have any of this material either. Special order....
