I can tell you for sure there is a beveled or slightly other than square leading lip on much of the angle I have cut at work on our band saw. the stuff 1/4 and up ain't bad and won't tip.. the 3/16 stupp wants to scoot up and out of the vice, kinda like squeezing out, not so much tipping up. in any case.. the block prevents it 100%. have use dthe smae on chop saws that use the cheap stamped sheet metal clamp vices in the base of the saw .. they are even worse for thin angle as the bottom edge of the 'vice' has enought play that it will almost ride up OVER 3/16 stock. again.. a block fixes it 100%.. likey not ideal.. but we do what works..
