I seem to have been given a 6' straight grader blade that was my grandfathers. the thing is probably 40 + years old but is in good shape but needs a new cutting edge.
does anybody have any idea where to buy replacements especially if you don't know the brand??
the thing is built like a tank! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The local Implement dealer may stock or be able to order a cutting edge for you.

The hole spacing of the blade will probably be a major hurdle to overcome. Most likely, the holes of the replacement cutting edge will be in a different pattern.
Plan on making a date with a heavy drill to create the needed holes to hold the new cutting edge on the blade.

You know i never thought about where to get a cutting edge replaced and then i then my grandmother said take that blade.
It's a shame not to get it back in good shape.

I haven't called around yet but i probably will soon. i guess it could be a pretty rewarding project using my grandfathers old blade.

we usualy added on wore down snowplow or road grader cutting edges, they are alot thicker and last a long time, thats how we built up the blade on our dozer and on our rear blade

Just a thought.
Can the current blade edge be turned over so the top in now the cutting edge.
My Land Pride is made this way.

Rebel, give your local steel yard a call. They'll cut a piece of flat stock to size which should work. You can size it to what's on there now. Then as EquipmentJunkie said, plan on getting to know your drill real well /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The local steel yard near here would cut a new blade and for a couple more dollars, they will broach out the holes for the mounting. First, I would try to flip the blade. If this isn't possible, take the measurements and check around with some of the snow plow dealers. They might have exactly what you need with the hole already punched. If the hole spacing is wrong, you might have less of a hassle if you drill new holes in the blade than trying to drill new holes in the cutting edge. I would use a torch to make the holes unless you are a neat freak.... then drill them..

Thanks for the ideas. i would have responded earlier but i work graveyards and some mornings i just don't feel like doing anything but sleeping.

I may try and bring it home this weekend . i didnt pay attention to whether the edge was dual sided. but if it's not i'll figure something out. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
