Cutting old fuel oil tank

/ Cutting old fuel oil tank #21
i've got an old 275 gal oil tank sitting out back that was used for diesel storage for the last 30+ years. i haven't been able to come up with a good use for it, so i'll probably just end up cutting it up and taking it in for scrap. if i blow myself up and get dead i'll make sure to post and let you know it wasn't safe.

Cut about 14" off each end and use the ends to store small scrap in until you get enough to take to the yard. One end for steel, the other for aluminium.... You will need some way to hoist them into the truck once they are full however...
Use the flat center sections to make steel carry-all boxes to store chain etc

I'm in the business, and i cut up oil tanks daily. I use a recip saw. Works well.

You do not need to worry about sparks. Oil is combustible, not flammable.

I spent 29 years in the safety business (Fire Dept.), I'll take precautions, thank you!!! ~~ grnspot110

I cut the ends off and old oil tank with a 7" Metabo electric grinder using 7" cutoff wheels. Made a lot of noise while cutting, but the Metabo cut thru it pretty quick.... I used the sheet of steel that I ended up with for one large and one smaller skid for big stumps and big rocks [stuff well over a ton that I can not pick up easy with my cat2 3 point and boom]...
