Cutting PTO shaft

I put my new post hole digger on my bx today, and was trying to check my pto shaft length like they told me to. It looks tom me like i wont have to cut the shaft off any, does this sound right to everone here. i baked it up to my branch and let it down slowly to see if it would bottom out the shaft and it had plenty of room and it didnt fall apart when raised to full height. but still worry because it coldnt be that easy. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Buckcreek, when I've had problems with shaft length it was opposite to what you described. It comes apart when I let it down over a bank or ditch. Tries to crush everything together when lifted high.

OK, i will check that tommorrow eve, but it seemed like it had plent of free movement both ways. i quess everone can tell this is my first pto operated implement /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif . thanks everone for putting up with my ignorance.

With my rototiller, I had to cut the shaft because when I lifted it high, it jambed the shaft on to my tractor. That was no fun getting it off. Also, those shafts must be hardened. I worked on it for 5 minutes with my sawsall and hardly scratched it. I had to use my chop saw. It cut it no problem. I used a file to get the burrs off, and it has worked no problem ever since.
