I really like my new (28 hrs) D40, but I park it inside, and the exhaust fills the shop when I startup to move the tractor outside.

The exhaust is ported to exit to the left front side of the tractor, and I am looking for a way to port it to the rear so it will go mostly out of the building.

I don't have a trailer, and am 15 miles from the nearest muffler shop, so can't just take it in to have a new exhaust extension welded on.

On my 8N, I had bought some flex exhaust hose and extended the exhaust about 3 feet, and thought I would do the same with this one (longer than 3', though). No luck trying to find 1 1/2" flex exhaust hose.

Tractor Supply used to carry flex exhaust and now says it is "illegal", and no luck at any of the auto parts or tractor dealers, either.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Ron

Any pics? Are you going to face the exhaust pipe toward the rear first, and then extend it to rear of tractor, or can you rotate yours 180 degrees? If you know how long you need it and how it should be shaped, you wouldn't have to take the whole tractor to the muffler shop, just the muffler.

No pix. The muffler is mounted vertically behind the engine cowling, and the exhaust pipe runs vertically down and then tips out to the side.

As this is a new tractor, I don't want to take the muffler off. I may use a length of #4 bare copper wire to simulate the shape of what I want made, and a muffler shop could make it up and I could install it.

I just don't want to spend the time on another project right now, and the flex exhaust would be a quick and easy fix until I have the time to do it right.

Thanks

Ron

Lot's of people make flexible vehicle exhaust hose or ducting. It is not illegal. Your problem will be finding a source where you can buy a short piece and not an entire system to take exhaust outdoors. A quick check on google turned up this supplier that has 2" ID hose. Maybe you could call them ask who else might have what you want in short pieces. Also, go see your local car dealer service manager to see where they got their system from. That might be a source for a "replacement" piece of hose. Look at the botton of the link for the $9 per foot aluminum hose.

Why not just back the tractor in so the exhaust is pointed at the door??????? Works fine for me.

I tried that, Kevin, but no go. Pulling straight in results in exhaust blown onto the workbench, welder, etc. Backing in results in exhaust blown onto shelving with boxes of "stuff".

The exhaust "cloud" is about 90 degrees to the tractor, on the left side.

I need to make it go out the back.

I had forgotten about JC Whitney. I'll look into them if other local sources don't work out.

Ron
