DANGERS OF AN OPEN GATE

/ DANGERS OF AN OPEN GATE #11
True story: Back in the late 70's, I heard a story about a District Operator (who worked for the provincial power company) who put a pike pole on the headache rack of his truck, (without tying it down!), and headed on down the road. As he reached a decent speed, the pike pole started to bounce around a bit and the front rose up enough to catch enough air to lift it and hold it up. It went sideways, of course, just at the moment he met a farmer on his tractor. The pike pole skewered the air cleaner on the tractor. Fortunately, the farmer was untouched, but that was just too close and totally preventable.
