This place has surely grown... it's been a while since I have visited.

Still have my Mahindra 6500 4WD w/ FEL and looking at getting a hydraulic PHD. We are constantly doing something where we need something besides my weak body to dig a hole. Just when I think I am done... another project. It's looking like about 2,000 feet of wood fencing with 6x6 PT posts, concreted in the ground... fun fun fun.

This will be used in very hard ground for the most part... red clay like concrete unless it's been raining 40 days and 40 nights. In some places it's a few inches of soft dirt before it hits the clay. At any rate... I have convinced myself to go ahead and get the hydraulic PHD and be done with it.

I called three companies simply looking for ideas and all three recommended the Danuser EP10. I was not necessarily price shopping, but the best deal thus far for the EP10 with the offset skid steer, 12" Danuser Auger, and 25ft of hose/connectors to run from front to back, seems to be at S&H Farm Supply at approximately $2470 shipped to my closest freight terminal.

I am posting to hear opinions of this setup, experiences, etc... to make sure there is not any better bang for the buck with another setup... and to make sure this seems like a reasonable price. Obviously I want the best deal I can get. No one locally or anywhere in Alabama that I can find carries it... so I am going to have to order it long distance if I go this route. I would drive a couple hundred miles one way to save on the shipping, which seems to be around $200-250, but have yet to find a dealer that close. Going to look a little more on Monday... ran out of time on Friday.

Thanks in advance for you input.

Regards,
Sonnie

Have you checked Everything Attachments. As far as price that sounds inline with the others. You also could call a distributor in Dublin, Ga and ask about a dealer in you area.

I have the PRO 1025H model, slightly more torque and love it. I use a 15" diameter bit, 48" long, and only stall at the bottom of the hole if I don't pull up to clean the bit. I also have the offset SSQA so I can see the bit better. Not cheap, but I would buy it again.

Ask about terminal shipping, sometimes it saves a fair amount. It is where they ship to a local freight terminal and you go there and pick it up will call.

What is you tractor's GPM on the hydraulic circuit? You don't want it to spin too fast (wasting possible torque) or too slow (bit won't spin the dirt off).

I have a Belltec NC150 hydraulic auger with 2" hex shaft and 9" and 14" bits. My only complaint has been with not being able to see the exact point where the auger tip hits the ground. I've bought a camera system that I hope will correct this issue...once I get it installed, that is.
I think the Danuser would work well for you, but don't be surprised to have it be slow going through hard, dry clay.

Thanks for the info guys. All quotes are to my nearest freight terminal.

The Mahindra 6500 4WD is rated at 11GPM.

The Mahindra 6500 4WD is rated at 11GPM.

At 11 GPM you are slightly under the recommended rating Danuser posts (not inside yellow range). You'll have the same torque as rated but you might need to get off the tractor and clear the auger with a shovel at times. Less than 1 revolution per second won't always throw everything off the auger bit. But it really depends on your soil type and what season you dig.

The hydraulic units are much safer than the PTO models.

With the EP6 and at 10GPM it will do 1 revolution per second (60rpm). I wonder if torque is that much better since I have some down force with the FEL. Perhaps it will bog down with the EP6 when it hits that sticky clay. I don't know if anything will throw that sticky stuff off. It takes a pretty good bump with the two handled hole diggers to get it off of those... sometime requiring a bump against a board or the post that is going into the ground.

I believe there will be many more instances where I will have 6-12 inches of black top soil before I get to the sticky red clay. However, there are a few places that start out red clay and it's extremely hard.

I would tend to the EP10 to have the torque. You might need to clean off the auger occasionally is all.
